New Weber Cast Iron Grates

Recommended Posts

Just had to share that I picked up a set for my 6 year old Weber Spirit 210 and man, what a difference in quality, feel and cooking than the original grates that came with the grill. Not sure what material was under the “porcelain enameling” on the old set, but they were prone to rust after a couple of years (and I use it a lot) and starting to bow. I can’t ever imagine these new cast iron ones doing that. Anyway, it gave me a good excuse to sand down the flavorizer bars, oil them , fire the grill up and watch er’ smoke to blacken them nicely. Cleaned the rest of the grill too. Feels like I've got a new grill for the $60 investment and all ready for the Fourth!

And while I've spouted off on that subject, anyone else made any improvements to their grills they want to share?

Good to know. My Silver needs new flavorizer bars pretty soon so the top grates probably aren't too far behind. One end bar of one grate is rusted through so no doubt the others are thin. The cast iron ones sound like a nice upgrade.

I just replaced the flavorizor bars on my 9 year old Weber Silver. Went Stainless for around $55.00. Should never need to do it again. I think I have another year or so on the grate. This grill just keeps on going and it sits covered outside year around. Never have had burner problems ect. I did give up on replacing the igniter. A stick lighter works just fine.

Did ribs on it yesterday and was able to keep temp @ 250 with one burner going.

When you mentioned nine years I had to go dig out the receipt for mine. It's 10 years, 2 months, and 2 days since I bought it. Have not had to put one dime into any sort of repairs as of yet and everything still works. As mentioned the flavorizers are on their last leg but I probably could finish out the year with them.

At the time it seemed a bit expensive, but I think it's been worth it in the long run. Other than flavorizer bars and grates every ~10 years, this thing shows no signs of demise in the foreseeable future.

Didn't see cast iron grates listed for the Silver B, but maybe something else fits that's just not listed. Gonna look into the stainless ones too.

I called in the Weber support line when I first got mine to ask some questions and I asked about the warranties and if anyone really calls them on the 25 years on the box or whatever it is. "Oh, sure, I get some old times who've had their's for 20 plus years calling in every now and then, We send them a new structural unit basically but its up to them to put it together, which they do!"

    • By The way that didn't work either!! Screw it I'll just use the cellular.
    • It’s done automatically.  You might need an actual person to clear that log in stuff up.   Trash your laptop history if you haven’t tried that already.
    • 😂 yea pretty amazing how b o o b i e s gets flagged, but they can't respond or tell me why I  can't get logged in here on my laptop but I can on my cellular  😪
    • I grilled some brats yesterday, maybe next weekend will the next round...
    • You got word censored cuz you said        B o o b ies….. haha.   Yeah, no… grilling is on hiatus for a bit.
    • Chicken mine,  melded in Mccormick poultry seasoning for 24 hours.  Grill will get a break till the frigid temps go away!
    • we had some nice weather yesterday and this conundrum was driving me crazy  so I drove up to the house to take another look. I got a bunch of goodies via ups yesterday (cables,  winch ratchet parts, handles, leaf springs etc).   I wanted to make sure the new leaf springs I got fit. I got everything laid out and ready to go. Will be busy this weekend with kids stuff and too cold to fish anyway, but I will try to get back up there again next weekend and get it done. I don't think it will be bad once I get it lifted up.    For anyone in the google verse, the leaf springs are 4 leafs and measure 25 1/4" eye  to eye per Yetti. I didnt want to pay their markup so just got something else comparable rated for the same weight.   I am a first time wheel house owner, this is all new to me. My house didn't come with any handles for the rear cables? I was told this week by someone in the industry that cordless drills do not have enough brake to lower it slow enough and it can damage the cables and the ratchets in the winches.  I put on a handle last night and it is 100% better than using a drill, unfortatenly I found out the hard way lol and will only use the ICNutz to raise the house now.
    • I haven’t done any leaf springs for a long time and I can’t completely see the connections in your pics BUT I I’d be rounding up: PB Blaster, torch, 3 lb hammer, chisel, cut off tool, breaker bar, Jack stands or blocks.   This kind of stuff usually isn’t the easiest.   I would think you would be able to get at what you need by keeping the house up with Jack stands and getting the pressure off that suspension, then attack the hardware.  But again, I don’t feel like I can see everything going on there.
