Replica

Recommended Posts

Sorry for asking however I tried searching and just looking back at previous posts but I was unable to get a return on a search for replica. I also couldn't just page back to look so I'm sorry for asking the question that gets asked many times on this forum. Is there a big difference between wood and fiberglass for a replica in appearance and cost? Also what are the expected costs for each. My son got a 29 inch walleye and I took the measurements and a couple of pictures and wanted to look into it. Anyone out there that has had this done that was happy with what they got back a name, number, HSOforum anything would be appreciated. Below is what a guy in California quoted which seemed rather expensicve to me but maybe I am a little out of the loop on this topic.

29" walleye - $522.00

Driftwood - $45.00

Name Plate - $30.00

A shipping rate would be added if the fish mount needs to be shipped. A 50% deposit of the total price is required to start.

Thanks,

Thanks you MNfishinguy. My 7 year old caught it all on his own only with his 9 year old at the net and my 5 year old giving advice to keep the line tight and rod tip up. It measured 29 girth 17 1/4. In my mind I thought 29 was kind of a kid threshold for getting this done and they got one which is still bigger tham my PB 28. It's not cheap but I'll check around and see if I can split up the cost a bit by maybe half up front and half when I pick up. Thanks again for the info and letting me retell the story.

I agree with the other posts. $14 is about average for a repro. and that often includes driftwood. Artistic Anglers does nice walleyes. So does Fibertech in Nisswa. You should get by at least $150 cheaper than your quote from California, and more importantly I can't imagine quality being any better than you can get at either of these two places.

As far as size, there is no magic number. More the circumstances. It sounds like you've got a great memory to warrant a reproduction.

I second Artistic Anglers. Just got my pike back and had a largemouth done a few years back. They do great work. I haven't been lucky enough to get a walleye big enough to mount yet, but I'm trying! Here's pics of both. The pictures don't do any justice to the real things. They look like they are ready to swim off the wall! If you order during the Sportmen's Show in the cities they charge 12.50 an inch I believe.

Thanks all for the responses. Those pictures are awesome. Yup got to get the replica made. Pictures and having the mount/replica is so great to have to continue to relive the awesome memory.

    • got this tackled today took about 3 hours to get both sides done. Didnt even get to use a torch....   Thought I was golden with just jacking it up and I could get to everything but no luck. Had to remove the entire axle hub and brake assembly to get to what I needed. Was a pain but still better then taking off the entire pivot arm.    Axle bearings were already greased and in great shape thankfully. Got both leaf springs installed and its ready for the road again.   Probably going to have my electric brakes checked, I am not touching anything with the brake drums. Based on what I saw it doesn't look like my electric brakes have been working anyway. Brakes are nice to have if its slippery out
    • By The way that didn't work either!! Screw it I'll just use the cellular.
    • It’s done automatically.  You might need an actual person to clear that log in stuff up.   Trash your laptop history if you haven’t tried that already.
    • 😂 yea pretty amazing how b o o b i e s gets flagged, but they can't respond or tell me why I  can't get logged in here on my laptop but I can on my cellular  😪
    • I grilled some brats yesterday, maybe next weekend will the next round...
    • You got word censored cuz you said        B o o b ies….. haha.   Yeah, no… grilling is on hiatus for a bit.
    • Chicken mine,  melded in Mccormick poultry seasoning for 24 hours.  Grill will get a break till the frigid temps go away!
    • we had some nice weather yesterday and this conundrum was driving me crazy  so I drove up to the house to take another look. I got a bunch of goodies via ups yesterday (cables,  winch ratchet parts, handles, leaf springs etc).   I wanted to make sure the new leaf springs I got fit. I got everything laid out and ready to go. Will be busy this weekend with kids stuff and too cold to fish anyway, but I will try to get back up there again next weekend and get it done. I don't think it will be bad once I get it lifted up.    For anyone in the google verse, the leaf springs are 4 leafs and measure 25 1/4" eye  to eye per Yetti. I didnt want to pay their markup so just got something else comparable rated for the same weight.   I am a first time wheel house owner, this is all new to me. My house didn't come with any handles for the rear cables? I was told this week by someone in the industry that cordless drills do not have enough brake to lower it slow enough and it can damage the cables and the ratchets in the winches.  I put on a handle last night and it is 100% better than using a drill, unfortatenly I found out the hard way lol and will only use the ICNutz to raise the house now.
