Anybody seen a Ruff Grouse chicks,if so how many in the brood?

Have a buddy who owns 40 acres up near Aurora, he says he has three groups up there with 7-9 youngsters in each group. My pup Duncan will have some birds to chase come fall!

Just saw the first bunch the other day. She had ten little ones but as I was watching them in the middle of the gravel road 2 crows flew in and each grabbed a chick. If the crows know they are in the area they will be back and probably get more or all of them. I still wonder why we have a season on crows?
