shimano IX's are the cheapest at $10.00 a piece at fleet farm. I run some of these and even thou they are cheap they are nice in my opinion for what they cost. the next step up would be the sienna. I have one of these and do really like it also. if I upgrade the IX's it would be to the sienna's. sienna are $30.00 each

Yes you can tow your boat around without lights but it would not be the smartest thing to do. Not only could you get a ticket but someone could hit you and another could get hurt.

I would work on fixing the lights so they all work. Typically fixing trailer lights does not run that much money. You can purchase some cheaper light kits that will have everything you need to replace all of it for not that much in funds.

I have had really good luck with Phlueger. The cheap ones are somewhere around $40-$50, but still high quality. I am going to get one, my rhino sucks. My Rhino 230 was good until I hooked the first pike over 3 lbs. I up'ed the drag to stop the run, and my main drive gear stripped (not really sure what to call it). It now clicks/skips when you try to reel when a fish is on a run. If you turn the package around and it has the american flag and "proudly made in the U.S.A." buy it. I buy only usa made fishing stuff. I once bought all of wallmart's fishing stuff, It was a bobber, and some jig heads; the best bobber and jig heads made too.

I have nothing against outsourcing, its the businesses that set high quotas that reduce quality of products plain and simple. Look at a carhartt made in 1995, and now, huge drop in everything from fabric quality, seams, zippers, everything.

Same with the intakes on the 5.3L GM's, its made of PLASTIC of all things. Ridiculous..

Pflueger President is a great reel for around $50 or so. That would me my choice if I had to choose.
