Drift Socks

You dont need them, but if you lose a sock it will be alot easier to get back. I am not sure if they will sink without it or not. They seem to float till you get them to catch and fill with water.

you dont need the float. We use about a 4-5 foot rope on ours. Go short enough so it doesnt get caught in the main motor or trolling motor. You might forget sometime.

The bouy can be used to unleash the drift sock when dealing with a large fish. Disconnect it and pick it back up when you are finished.

A little longer rope will work better. If you get the sock out away from the boat it will slow you down better. My brother unhooked mine from the rope to untwist it then forgot to hook it back up again. It just floated and never sank.

I caught a drift sock off the bottom of Mille lacs. It had a harness and all but the float had evidently fallen off. Boy was that thing a fight it opened fully and it was windy out so it took me about 15 minutes or more to bring it. So I would say not all of them float.
