Are you talking different version of Windows 7. I would go with Home Premium if is strictly a home version, the other versions are more work/Active Directory orientated and there is no real sense to spending the extra $$ if you don't use it. The one thing you may use is the virtual PC other than that not much I can think of someone at home would use.

Thanks I guess I wasn't sure what I needed but I called Microsoft and found out what I needed and found out that I didn't need to back up my files just upgrade windows. If I would of had windows xp I would of had to back up my files and store them on a a storage device then after the 7 down load I would of had to download old programs by hand.

They(Microsoft) walked me thru it.

Windows offers the easy transfer wizard to put your files on a back up device.

Then when u have 7 installed you just let windows put your files back on the drive where they were originally .

If your going to upgrade u might as well format the drive and start fresh...less problems from the upgrade.

It has the option to format during install.
