Dodge vs Chevy

Recommended Posts

I think that is the most important, go drive all 3, and buy the one YOU like best. Dont worry about our stories. All vehicles have good and bad ones. Just hope you get a good one of whichever you pick.

Thx Purple and 4.. I plan to test drive them, yes. But have not done so yet. Its still a coin toss at this point and you are right, some trucks drive like cars, others drive like a truck. I am still looking around waiting for a good price. Its amazing to me how much price varies from dealer to dealer. Many equally equipped trucks w same amount of miles, but a difference in price of sometimes 3K... It looks like I will get a better $ if I buy something out a ways from the cities. Trucks are cheaper from small town dealers, for the most part.

I have a 2008 GMC and have no troubles at 80,000 miles and no oil issues yet? My Friend just bought a 2012 half ton Ram with the Larimie Long Horn package and I tell you that thing is very nice. I do second a previous poster and think the GMC looks a lot better then the chevy. My .02 would be don't cheap out and get leather in which ever you decide.

Well, finally made the purchase. Test drove chev and dodge, didnt test drive ford as I dont care much for its looks and that is a part of the equation, too. Thats just me. And, in my price range, the fords had 70,000 or more, miles on them. Chevys similarily equipped to the Ram 1500 are/were about 5k more, w/ thousands more miles on them as well. I guess i like the hemi engine and styling of the Ram, so thats what I chose. 07 Ram 1500 Hemi quad cab, 43,000 miles. I plan/hope to put at least 150,000 mi on this truck. We will see. Lots of room and power. Not quite as smooth as the Durango but, it is a truck, not an suv so I expected that. How do I find out the rear end gear ratio? I looked on the case, but couldnt see anything resembling gear ratio on it... I figure I got this for about half of what it was $ new, and it should last for a long time, I hope. Thanks for all the info/suggestions as well, guys. Now I can pull the boat again!

To be honest, a lot of being satisfied with your vehicle plays apon yourself. Not only by maintaining it correctly, but in how you feel about the vehicle. Some people, they can love a vehicle, and not mind spending $200 a month on maintenance. Others can hate a vehicle, and not spend more then $200 per year. That is why it is more important to just buy the one you like best. If you love the truck, it doesnt matter if you spend a little more on stuff, but if you hate the truck, every dime you put in it is to much.

I was a lifetime Chevy guy... no more... I'm about to jump ship... Ive had 3 Chevys now and they have ran fine but the little items.. Have you ever owned a chevy that had a tailgate that worked? Door hinges..? And now... I got a spare tire hoist that's froze up... I'm done...

The other big factor in switching.... Who was the one of the only companies that didn't take my tax dollars for a bail out.... FORD... Chevy still hasn't paid it back...

Time for new...

I have had many chevy trucks, although all 4.3 liter v6 engines, my father owns a dodge, Like others have said test drive both. I know with my chevy that I need to be proactive with preventative maintenance. I always change fuel filter every 20,000 miles, drop the tranny pan and put a new filter in every 35000 miles. Change oil every 3000 miles on the dot, I think what ever you chose as long as you take care of it, it will take care of you. I buy with fairly high miles and drive them into the dirt all of my chevys have gone 300,000 miles.

When you check on the axle, ask them what lube it takes. Mine takes some special gear lube that is suppose to be serviced every 15000 miles. I had the dealer do it as required for 149. an axle. When the warranty came up, i change over to ams oil as it will let me go longer. The service is easy on these engines, the only issue i have is the last 2 plugs on the drivers side as the brake booster makes it tough but if you have the right sockets etc you can get them out no issues. Also after putting in non oem plugs my mileage did suffer, i changed back to oem. good luck.

    • Sorry to hear that Duff. Will give my GSP's an extra scratch behind the ear for you guys today
    • Aw, man, sorry to hear that.  Shed some tears and remember her well.  They all take a piece of our hearts with them; some more than others.
    • yes sorry for your loss..  our dogs are always special...
    • Truly sorry to hear that duffman! I know that feeling.  Keep the good memories
    • Chamois passed away this weekend a couple days short of her 13th bday. What a great dog to hang out with here at home and on distant adventures. Gonna miss ya big time my little big girl.
    • Sounds pretty sweet, alright. I will check them out, thanks.
    • If you really want to treat your wife (and yourself) with a remote operated trolling motor, the Minn Kota Ulterra is about easy as it gets.  Auto stow and deploy is pretty awesome.  You just have to turn the motor on when you go out and that the last time you have to touch it.   24V 80lb.  60 inch shaft is probably the right length for your boat.  They ain’t cheap - about $3k - but neither one of you would have to leave your seat to use it all day.
    • Wanderer, thanks for your reply. I do intend for it to be 24 volt, with a thrust of 70-80. Spot lock is a must (my wife is looking forward to not being the anchor person any more).  With my old boat we did quite a lot of pulling shad raps and hot n tots, using the trolling motor. Unlikely that we will fish in whitecaps, did plenty of that when I was younger. I also need a wireless remote, not going back to a foot pedal. We do a fair amount of bobber fishing. I don't think I will bother with a depth finder on the trolling motor. I am leaning toward moving my Garmin depth finder from my old boat to the new one, just because I am so used to it and it works well for me. I am 70 years old and kinda set in my ways...
    • Dang, new content and now answers.   First, congrats on the new boat!   My recommendation is to get the most thrust you can in 24V, assuming a boat that size isn’t running 36V.  80 might be tops?  I’m partial to MinnKota.     How do you plan to use the trolling motor is an important question too.     All weather or just nice weather?   Casting a lot or bait dragging?   Bobber or panfish fishing?   Spot lock?  Networked with depth finders?  What brand of depth finders?
