Which ball size on Ram Mount?

Looking at buying a Ram Mount for installing my 798ci and not sure of which ball size to get. I see two sizes, 1" and 1-1/2". Installing on a boat the does about 30 mph.

I use the 1" Size and when it is rough riding it will settle over time.

Go with the 1.5" size. I have an HDS 7 which is slightly larger on a 1.5". I could have gone larger. It holds pretty well unless it's really pounding out there.

I use the 2.5" on my 1198 and it is not bullet proof. Whatever size you go with, go with as big as you have room (or money) for. You won't be sorry if it's to big but you will be mad if it is to small.

Just mounted a 798 on my boat and used the larger ball. I've had it out a couple times and once was kind of rough water. Glad I went with the larger ... not sure a 1" would held well enough. I also added a ball to the console of my snowmobile as I plan to use the maps/gps when on the ice ... also tried that last Feb and also glad I went with the 1.5".

Thinking I might skip the Ram mount and just put it on the dash. That way i can have all the wires come up through the base. I need to make a custom 3 degree shim first so that it sits level. One of the benefits of having a CNC mill.

I have a 1.5" ball on my 898, it holds, but i really tighten it...Should have went with a 2"
