Lowrance HDS - Points of Interest from Lakemaster Chip

vman11

Question

I just picked up a HDS-5 Gen II and was messing with my settings while I had my LOTW/Rainy Lakemaster chip installed.

I have a Endura Sierra hand-held that I used for my chart prior to this and liked being able to identify the lake feature points of interest. It seemed like every rock pile had a name, etc.

When I was scrolling around on my HDS I didn't have the same luxury. Very little information on reefs and such.

I am hoping it is just a setting that I am missing but I went through the menus multiple times. All of the detail settings are on high.

Any thoughts/suggestions? I am assuming there is a way to activate the detail - I wouldn't imagine that they'd have the detail on the handheld and not the HDS.

I have the same problem with my HDS-8 Gen2. I bought the 2011 Lake Master chip and all the contours show up but not the name of the reefs or flats. I have an old 2006 Lake Master chip so I tried that and all the reefs and flats show up. Since the 2011 chip has more detail I tried both chips at the same time and it works. I guess when the insight pro 2012 chips come out we will have to buy them.

Thanks Fishing_Novice. Not exactly what I wanted to hear, but at least now I know.

I still have a hard time believing that my 2 year old Sierra will show the POI with the exact same chip but my brand new, state of the art HDS won't. It just doesn't make sense.

Maybe I just need to accept it but it still doesn't make sense to me smile

Did you try asking Lowrance?

Their February update to Gen 1 software included an update to toggle the Navionics points of interest. Maybe there is someting in the works for Gen 2 with Lakemaster.

Straight from Doc:

I don’t know why. The Endura series is different and will not display the new Lowrance map chips from Lowrance.

Make sure all categories are selected.

LakeMaster made the chip for the HDS and Endura so they may have made some changes so it reads different in each model.

I still plan on getting in touch with Lowrance. If it is the way it is and my settings are correct they will at least get some VOC comments.
