Wadena area reports?

Recommended Posts

I'm headed down to NE Wadena County next week to chase ol' Tom Turkey around.

Any reports from down in that area? What stage of their spring fling are the birds in?

Still alot of gobbling going on? Lots of hens on nests? Toms still have the gals herded up for the most part?

Thanks,

Brian

According to Oldakowski bobcats are thick, we were asking about the lower bird numbers in the area and also many broods just didn't happen or were wiped out with last springs cool wet weather, also the red fox has really come back around the county, there were 4 of us hunting either A B or C season and we all connected, none of us saw very many birds though, my strategy was to scout on the opener and locate a tom or 2 which worked out well, I also realized early on they wouldn't decoy so I intercepted him on his route. There's some around, just not many yoy birds from the nest the last spring. Some places you see a fair amount, in other usual turkey places you see none, then again it's light by 5:30AM so unless your in the right place right time you won't see or hear them, good luck. They were gobbling early and late last Sunday the few that were around which made the difference for me knowing I was where I needed to be.

Thanks MuskyBuck!

I'll be hunting around Nimrod. Last spring we only saw 3 hens in 5 days of hunting. The year before we saw birds every day.

The family friend where I stay says he's been seeing them all over, so it sounds good.

Gotta' break my 0 for 5 streak............ sick

Yes good luck, that is the deal, there are plenty around really, it's just so different year to year where they really want to be at season time, you may want to even like mid day scout some if you aren't hearing gobbling or seeing much where you set up shop, then again you may be in the best spot to be just noon to 3 they move etc., put in some time and you'll have a good shot, good luck,
