stoneeyes317
I noticed that Cub has Tri-tip for sale so I picked one up today. I'm looking for a good rub to put on it before it hits the BGE, along with any other help anyone is willing to offer. I should add that the rub can't be too hot since I'm feeding it to my 6 year old.Thanks,eyes317
Lip_Ripper Guy
I did 3 of these for a groom's dinner, and they turned out great! Three different ways:1) cut slits into the meat and stuffed a garlic clove in each. Simple salt and pepper on the outside. 2) a rock salt crust. I had never done it before, and was nervous of the saltiness, but it turned out great. 3) a rub similar to what you would use on brisket. I grilled over high heat to sear on each side, and then backed down to probably 350 til it was done. If i were to do it again, I'd cook to probably 135-140 and then wrap in foil to let rest for an hour or so to absorb more flavor.
reinhard1
here is another idea for a rub for any steak realy. about 1/4 cup of maple syrup 1 tbls crushed garlic1 tbls seasoned salt1 tbls gr. black pepperput the steaks in a bowl and drizzle the maple syrup over the steaks. then rub on the spices and garlic. the tri tip is very lean so it's a good idea not to over cook it. i dont go beyond medium on most steaks, medium rare for the most part. good luck. sheepheadslayer
The best tri tip you can get your hands on is a from a lil gas station in Medford MN. Trust me you won't regret it.
HARDTIMES
I go with the Santa Maria Rub on the tri tip.1 tsp. salt1 tsp. garlic powder1 tsp. sugar1 tsp. black pepper1/2 tsp. onion powder1/4 tsp. cayenneSear tri tip 2-3 min over high heat on each side. Move to indirect heat and cook an additional 20-30 minutes. Cook to the preferred doneness. Most underrated cut of beef.My test rats love them. stoneeyes317
Thanks for the rub reinhardt. I've never had a maple sauce/rub on beef before so I think I will hold off on using it until I do a smaller piece, say a steak. Sounds intriguing though...eyes317
