Squarebill Rod

I'm thinking about getting a rod specifically for squarebilled crankbaits. Any suggestions on length, power, action, graphite vs glass? General info is fine, but if you have used a specific rod for this with good results, please let me know. Thanks.

I use 7' medium st. croix premier crankbaits rods for shallow divers and little rattle traps. They have a moderate action. Anything bigger and i go to the medium heavy. I'm not sure but I think they are a composite rod. relativley cheap in the rod realm as well. I don't like to spend a ton on cranking rods because you usually know when they hit the bait. I believe there in the low 100 range.

Hiya -

I use the Powell Squarebill rod from Tackle Warehouse. It's listed as a fast action but it's closer to a mod fast with a quick tip and a lot of power. Great for pulling fish out of cover and away from docks. Also gotten to be my favorite spinnerbait rod.

Cheers,

RK

Hellabass,is that the Dobyns glass version? I was wondering what you guys thought about glass or composites for throwing square bills. I was also looking at the Kistler Micro Magnesiums as well. I have read on other sites that Kistler doesn't have the best name but I was kind of interested in the micro-guides and glass composite. This would be my first rod with micro guides and a glass composite so I was just looking for some opinions. Thanks for your input guys.
