Guide Placement?

Recommended Posts

I have a 7'6" MLXF St. Croix SC3 I have 8 guides I looked on St.Croix's site and they recommend 7 but I have decided on 8 I was told that there should be about 21" from the front of fore-grip or reel seat to the first guide I original had a 7' ( was giving spacing for this set up) and swapped it for a 7'6" now I'm thinking that I can add 3/8 to each of those and it should get me to that 21" mark any help would be appreciated Thanks Ryan

For a spinning rod my rule of thumb is 24 inches from the center of the reel seat to the ring o the first guide. And probably about 4 to 4 1/2 inches from the tip on that end. From there I like to make sure the line will pretty much follow the arc of the rod when flexed. 8 guides ona 7 1/2 foot rod would be about right. But you could do OK with 7 too.

I would start at the tip with 4 1/2 inches add 3/4 to inch per guide and just work it out so you last guide from the tip winds up about 24 inches from the middle of the reel seat.

I am sure someone else will give you some thoughts too.
