Ground blind setup in open field

We do this all the time. Most times do not even have decoys out. Birds unless winter on the land do not mind the blinds in the field. If you do use decoys keep them close to the blind or setup past you so if the birds hang up they still can be in shooting range.

anybody have any comments on their success rate of blind + decoys in an open field with relation to different points of the season?

I'm imagining it might not be very effective once hens are nesting later in the season? I've never done this so I could be completely wrong

I'm not much of a decoy guy to start with. They've cost me more nice toms than they ever pulled in. But I've had some luck with a full or half strut jake later in the season. I leave the hen decoys at home.

How far off the wooded area do you set your blind and what do you mean by puttin decoys past you so they are still in range?. How does this work with no decoys? Do you set up on a travel route?? Thanks..

If you pattern the birds and know where they come down from roost and into the fields you will greatly increase the chance of success. I have used decoys as well and they have worked for me. I don't know why but they don't seem bothered by the blind. I like a jake with a couple of hens very close to the blind, approx 5-10 yards. Its worked early and late season
