Replacing a starter?

Recommended Posts

3100 motor I assume. Its a pretty simple one, no special tools needed, located right up front and if I remember correctly less than a half hour to change.

Maybe add another half if you've never done one. wink

10mm socket to remove the guard. 15mm swivel socket to remove the 2 starter bolts. Couple of wires and voila, it's out. Hardest part is finding the guard bolts through all the grease and grime.

Well, after a lot of feeling around and wondering why the heck the bolts were so inaccessible, I realized that the guard you were referring to wasn't the plastic strip which also takes a 10 mm socket. (I didn't realize there was one specific to the starter.) Of course, the one metric socket I didn't have on hand was a 15mm and I was running low on daylight after work, so I'll have to finish up on Friday. Because it was a little hard to see, buying the new starter and paying the core charge up front was helpful so I could see exactly where I should find the bolts. Thanks again guys.
