How do you "kill" your bass (or any fish) before eating it?

Nah...just goofing around on the first reply. I was in my hotel room late at night after 400 miles on the road for work and was a little tired smile The 2nd reply was serious though...

We have been going to our Spring trip lake now for the 5th year. There is only the option of trout or smallies for any kind of fish meal. To be honest..I cant say that I am a huge fan of the trout. We did them on the grill once and baked them once - but I am just not a fan. This year we are going to try the traditional pan fry method and batter used for eyes - but give it a shot with a smallie or 2.

I personally prefer a gallon of bleach in the livewell. Two birds with one stone, and not one DNR officer will ever argue with me about whether or not I've got exotics in there...

lol You gotta love the bass boards when it comes to this stuff.

Reminds me of when I was a small boy on the farm. We butchered our own beef cattle for the family table. I felt so sorry for the cow when we butchered them that I didnt eat beef for , like , one day.... crazy

Who eats Bass??? sicksicksick

I pull the plug out of the live well when I leave the lake, when I get home, well lets say they swim with the fishes.

I can't see how you are getting them home alive without bringing home lake water and that is a NO NO!!!!!!!!!!!!

98% of the fish I keep have been mortally hooked. 98% of those fish are panfish.

I've bonked fish in the head before and had them return to consciousness later. My new method is to snap the spinal cord, 100% guaranteed efficiency. Bleeding it out by cutting the gills may also improve the taste but does not kill as quickly as spine snap.

And regarding "who eats bass!? eww", please be respectful. Eating different species of fish is a personal and even socially constructed thought. If you want to be technical, (black) bass are sunfish. Even white bass have a cult-like following by those who have been lucky enough to try their white meat: there's a legend where a host cooked white bass to his guests saying it was walleye; not surprisingly, there was no outcry.

I did the same thing some years ago with my buddy who was a diehard walleye eater, proclaiming them to be the best eating fish....It was just after opener ,and I was telling him how I had been catching some 1 to 2 lb walleyes along with bass....He begged me to save him the walleyes, sooooo, I filleted a few small bass and walleyes...He told me those walleye were outstanding!.....Go figure.

Most people can't really tell the difference between crappie, walleye, bass, and northern if they are all prepared the same way, and there are no visual cues to tip them off (like size or shape of the fillet)

Yea I know. There are a lot of people who eat Bowfin, Carp, White Bass and Large mouth Bass. They all love them. I like Cod. My wife only eats fish sticks. If I hunger I'll eat just about any thing and it will taste good. I also have clean so many fish in my life that this Q sounds a bit odd. What I do hate is when the fish won't hold still after your hafe done cleaning it. You could cut yourself.

My real point is I have seen so many good spots get fished out that I do not try to tell anyone to keep fish. It just S$#% when you get to a landing of a small lake that you fish and there is a boat there and the fisherman are showing of a stringer of 12 Bass all in the 18in range And you know most of the fish personally.
