New Furnace purchase.

I plan on getting a new furnace prior to the winter of 2012/13. Is there a best time to buy? By "best time", I mean is there a time of the year when furnaces would be on sale or heating companies getting rid of older models?

Thanks.

Not so much on sale. If anything it will be a rebate. Now is a good time around here because there is not a lot going on and places want to keep the guys busy. There are some rebates going on now and there will most likely be more in the fall. In Minnesota some of the power companies are even giving some rebates for some of the furnaces.

You can find some really good deals on scratch and dent furnaces through some of the wholesale houses. I bought my last one through Goodin company at a huge discount the dent was in the side that you cut out for the return air so it wasn't a issue.

To buy from most of theses places you will need a account which is no big deal to start one. You could call around and see if they have any scratch and dents at places like Fergouson,Goodin company,Westburne or any other wholesale buisness that you may know of in your area.

FWIW, I got a hi-efficiency variable speed furnace about 5 years ago (give or take...) and I can't say enough about how much it has made my house feel more comfortable. No more cold/hot spots with fan always on. It operates on DC when on low (most of the time), so doesn't suck electricity, and hardly ever has to kick into "high" even on cold days.

Knock on wood, but only one issue in that time and that was from me blowing leaves into the intake, haha!

Good luck!

I've received a few flyers in the mail recently from local HVAC companies with "sale" prices so there may be some sales out there.

I just had my furnace, A/C, and water heater replaced last year and there were plenty of rebates available. Xcel Energy had Electic rebates, Centerpoint had Gas, and there are the federal rebates as well. Right now you are looking at $500 from the feds in tax credit with qualifying equipment.

Now I had a major upgrade in my furnace from something 20+ years old to something modern with a 2 stage burner and ECM fan. I'm on the budget plan w/ my gas company and I maintained a significant surplus through the entire winter, of course we didn't have much of a winter so comparison is very difficult with previous years but I love the equipment and my A/C never worked before. smile

Thanks guys,

We are in no rush to get a new one. Ours is 22 years old, it is getting a little noisey. I am going to search through out the summer and see what I can get.

I was thinking that they would be getting rid of old models during the summer months. Guess not.
