Toyota Care (Walser Bloomington)

Recommended Posts

I have a 5.7 with 20,000 miles. I have notice rust on the rotors way more on the Tundra then the Chevy I had previous when it's wet out. But the Chevy had drum brakes on the back though.

so when you come up to a stop light after traveling say 50mph (or whatever) and the light turns green around 10-15 mph, your truck doesn't jump to 1st gear, rev high RPMS, jolt forward, then in a second or two go into second gear?

Other then that, the truck shifts as smooth as silk as well. Again, the service tech said this was a computer shifting problem that has no fix (besides the 4's)...but obviously if yours doesn't do that then one has to wonder...

I'm still going to follow up at other service centers to see what they say.

I would call the 1-800 number in your owners manual, and talk to Toyota service rep, explain to them what your vehicle is doing, then how the dealer treated you. Without a complaint to Toyota, no one other then us, will know about how they treated you, and they will continue their practices to others.

The charging for non warranted repairs isnt a new one, and has been used by larger cities for awhile now, but it is not a popular practice for dealers, and the manufacturers arent to happy about it either. It is not illegal, it just isnt good business.

Find a dealership that will work with you and your warranty, and ask them about TSB 0825-10 and if it applies to 5.7 liter engines with the same 6 sp tranny that is involved with that TSB.

link to TSB 0825-10

I have about 30,000kms on my 4.6 2wd 2010, and I still haven't got used to the 6 speed transmission. Here is the scenario... driving very slowly, about 5 to 10 kms per hour, take you foot off the gas for a moment, then get back on the gas very gently and the transmission doesn't seem to know what gear it wants. Sometimes it will rev real high and stay in first for what seems to be forever (really only about 3 -4 seconds) then will shift into second and other times it will take right off ???

Love the truck, but I must admit, this is getting a little annoying. Tried every way possible to be consistent with it but it does not react consistent, even in "S" mode.

Anyone have any idea if the trucks computer can be re flashed with different transmission shift ratios?

.........

I owe you one Rone.

Took it in today, 20 minutes later its done and wow...what a difference. That little solid state circuit board called the PCM (Powertrain Control Module) controls the shift timing of the transmission. Basically an updated programing thing and its done. Again, I can't believe the difference it makes. It might even get a bit better mileage as it doesn't shift gears as much as it did. Time will tell, but a very noticeable difference.

There has also been talk of people having good luck with a flush and fill on their tranny.

No, I've never noticed that and today did what you said but it shifted very smooth. Use McGurk suggestion and then goto [Note From Admin: Please read forum policy before posting again. Thank You.] It a good site and will be able to get better answers since there are more people to ask and they have owned Tundras longer.

    • Sorry to hear that Duff. Will give my GSP's an extra scratch behind the ear for you guys today
    • Aw, man, sorry to hear that.  Shed some tears and remember her well.  They all take a piece of our hearts with them; some more than others.
    • yes sorry for your loss..  our dogs are always special...
    • Truly sorry to hear that duffman! I know that feeling.  Keep the good memories
    • Chamois passed away this weekend a couple days short of her 13th bday. What a great dog to hang out with here at home and on distant adventures. Gonna miss ya big time my little big girl.
    • Sounds pretty sweet, alright. I will check them out, thanks.
    • If you really want to treat your wife (and yourself) with a remote operated trolling motor, the Minn Kota Ulterra is about easy as it gets.  Auto stow and deploy is pretty awesome.  You just have to turn the motor on when you go out and that the last time you have to touch it.   24V 80lb.  60 inch shaft is probably the right length for your boat.  They ain’t cheap - about $3k - but neither one of you would have to leave your seat to use it all day.
    • Wanderer, thanks for your reply. I do intend for it to be 24 volt, with a thrust of 70-80. Spot lock is a must (my wife is looking forward to not being the anchor person any more).  With my old boat we did quite a lot of pulling shad raps and hot n tots, using the trolling motor. Unlikely that we will fish in whitecaps, did plenty of that when I was younger. I also need a wireless remote, not going back to a foot pedal. We do a fair amount of bobber fishing. I don't think I will bother with a depth finder on the trolling motor. I am leaning toward moving my Garmin depth finder from my old boat to the new one, just because I am so used to it and it works well for me. I am 70 years old and kinda set in my ways...
    • Dang, new content and now answers.   First, congrats on the new boat!   My recommendation is to get the most thrust you can in 24V, assuming a boat that size isn’t running 36V.  80 might be tops?  I’m partial to MinnKota.     How do you plan to use the trolling motor is an important question too.     All weather or just nice weather?   Casting a lot or bait dragging?   Bobber or panfish fishing?   Spot lock?  Networked with depth finders?  What brand of depth finders?
