mrklean
First make sure pike season is open, im not sure how Iowa seasons run. I would use a 6"-12" steel leader depending on the size of fish that are in there then just clip the spoon on there
Gordie
I would also try some rapalas like the floaters in fire tiger or chartuse in color and as mentioned use a steel leader and clip on your lure and hang on for some fun.Good Luck

Dan L
For pike fishing that kind of lure I use a med hvy 7' rod with 20 - 30lb. braided line. Mono Line would work also. I fish the backwaters for pike in S.E. MN and my go to bait for pike is a 1/2 to 3/4 oz white spinnerbait with double colorado blades. My second choice is a shallow suspending rapala husky jerk bait. mainbutter
You don't need to do anything special to use spoons or rapalas, as suggested. They can be used on just about any rod and any reel and any line. Bite protection leaders are recommended whenever fishing pike. The lighter the line, the easier it breaks, but the farther it can cast. Monofilament has been around forever, and to anyone new to fishing or who doesn't do it much I'd suggest 8-20lb monofilament for pike. Personally I'd go with 12lb.Cast. Reel. Catch pike. You can reel fast, slow, change speeds or stop intermittently, or just steadily, all different kinds of retrieves will catch fish. Gordie
Personally I'd go with 12lb.Cast. Reel. Catch pike12lb is a great place to start for a line and it wont break the bank.
20lbSloughShark
125 yards of spider wire stealth in 30# is almost as cheap at $7 a box.
