Wood chair problem/gettting loose

BLACKJACK

Recommended Posts

We have some oak wooden kitchen chairs, custom made about 15 years ago and now they're 'loosening up' all over, the spokes between the legs on some of them pop out, where the chair backs attach to the seat is loosening up. How do I go about fixing them? Is their a special glue to be used or just use a good wood glue?? Or should I take them to a wood worker/cabinet maker??

Thanks in advance!!

The humidity is low in houses this time of the year and so that makes things worse. I've put up with things like this since most of our furniture is old. You need a good wood glue, you need to clean off all the old glue and whatever very carefully, and then when you re-glue the stuff follow the directions to a T. I usually take some rope and wrap the legs and tighten it by winding a screwdriver in the rope like a tourniquet. Other option would be to set them in the bathroom and run the shower and let them get some moisture back.

I've seen a product called wonderlok. It swells the wood and hardens it. Web search it, gets pretty good reviews too.

That looks like what I'm looking for!!!! Did a search and found it on the Duluth Trading site and all the reviews were good!!!

Thanks!!
