Hummingbird 597

Chris Barlage

Question

Thinking about putting one of these combo units in my boat. Anyone got some feed back on them. I looked at cabelas web page and a few have concerns about the speed not showing up properly. Any feeback is welcome. Looking at this one more since it is on sale for 499 till june. Want to stay around that price range.

i have 597 ci hd as well

yes when playing with it your current location and mapping does not always come up on screen right away

..and yes, i have done trolling a little with it and moving across the lake and believe speed indicators can/may be inaccurate at times.

but i am very new at this, this is my first real fish finder, and thought i got a great deal on it last fall. i still have a ton to learn but cannot wait to get to use it for the whole open water season this year,....and yes, it is great on the ice as well.

I have the 597, and have found it to be a good unit. I haven't had a problem with the speed reading...I think that has been pretty accurate. I have noticed the slow loading gps maps, and I think you would have to upgrade to the 788 to improve those things. Also, if it matters, the 597 will not be compatible with the new 360 transducer, and the 788 will be compatible.

There is a thread on the 597 in the "Product Reviews" forum...go check that out for more info.

If you're looking for an even better deal with a little better quality, I'd take a look at the Humminbird 788ci. Reed's has them on sale right now for $479.99 which is cheaper than the 597ci HD that is stated. These units are basically the same exact units, but you get access to three pre-set buttons on the 788ci which is very helpful when out on the water. Just my 2c
