Kicker fuel line?

walleyvoyager

Question

I'm installing a new mercury kicker on my lund this week. I have a single fuel line coming out of the back, going to the main motor. Wondering if anyone have any information on splitting the fuel line to run to both motors with a T valve or a 3-way.

Any information would be great, also places to pick up supplies??

Thanks

Depending the age of your boat, there may be more than one gas pick-up line on your tank. If you have a built in tank, take the floor up where the gas tank is and you will (Could) see a outlet for a fuel line. If there is one there it is very simple to run the new line off the extra outlet. Make sure you use a line that includes a bulb as the fuel pump on the kicker may not be strong enough to draw the fuel, and the ball will prime as well as have a check valve in the bulb to hold prime once pumped.

If other have done this differently they may chime in with other ideas they have used. Good luck.

The 2nd pick-up off the tank and 2nd fuel line is the best way to go.

If you have to T the existing fuel line, make sure you have a bulb and check value between the T and each motor ...... otherwise you risk sucking air through one motor when the other motor is running. Lots of these setups work okay but every so often you run into one that causes problems.

I took the floor out this evening and it looks like i do have two extra fuel pick ups. This is good.

Seems like the auto parts stores in my area and fleet farm quit/don't sell the fittings I need. I'm looking for the fitting to go through the splash well aluminum with a male end on both side, anyone know where they sell these?

Also I've never put a fuel line in before, do you need to put a pipe tape or a sealant on the threads for the connection from the pick up or the connection through the splash well?

Just a thought voyager, and you probably already have this covered, but if you are running your big motor off an in-boat tank I assume the motor has separate oil injection. Does your new kicker also? I have an older set up where the kicker runs off a separate tank but have to pre-mix the gas in that tank with oil.

I will be running a new 4 stroke off the existing tank. That's a good call

I took the plug out of one of the plugged pick ups, and the threads are striped. Coming from the factory like that? Seems kind of odd. It looks like the threads are 3/4 unharmed and will be salavagble, I hope. I just need to find a store with the right fittings.

Is there a pickup tube/drop line in the tank? If not you'll need to add one and your going to have to get one from the dealer.

They have a check valve on the end of the line that lays in the tank.

If you end up using a T then use a a valve as a T that you can switch from one motor to the other. That will eliminate the chance of sucking air from the other motor.
