Theoretical gun winning question...

Recommended Posts

So you are at a banquet, and there are gun raffles, you have limited cash to spend on tickets, and there are some/couple options - all of them have about same value, like about $600-$700 total or thereabouts:

1. A $600-$700, nice auto shotgun, like an 11-87, or the Steoger, or Mossberg auto, but not an "expensive" model.

2. A decked out Nova with some trimmings (case, sling, etc.).

3. A rifle and nice scope (even though it is a waterfowl gig)

4. A nice handgun, about $600-$7000 worth (.357, Judge, etc.) - reason is to mix it up some...

5. A combo 870 express PLUS a Ruger 10/22

6. A combo Ruger 10/22 and a Browning .22 handgun

7. What else would be cool?....

8. or would it be cool to have cheaper overall priced guns but have more than one winner? Like instead of a combo, have one person win an 870 and one a Ruger 10/22...

Just wondering, as we were discussing it the other night when talking about winning a gun at raffle. Thanks for thoughts - I kinda like the combo idea smile

I would think a guided trip would be a great prize

I would also think a sweet black powder gun would be a nice prize too like a TC in a combo rifle and a black powder barrel.

Another great item is a Les Kuba print or simalar print. they can be as good as a gun and even better.. But I didnt say that grin

The only banquets I buy raffle tickets at anymore are the ones with gun boards where multiple winners pick their choice. I've won guns 4 of the last 6 years on one particular board. Didn't win one this year but my brother drew a winner and he got to pick 3rd, taking a savage .270. I always choose the most valuable gun remaining on the board, whether its a muzzle loader, rifle, shot gun. I'll either keep it and shoot it or use it as trade bait for something else.

Thanks for the thoughts guys. I like the idea of multiple gun on one board myself, just more chance at winning. Am new at being involved and we have been bouncing ideas around of what would be cool and possibly "new" for some of the raffles. Appreciate the ideas. smile

One interesting idea I saw at a banquet recently was a small tool box on a board with an unknown amount of cash in it. it was on a winners choice board with some prints. Never did hear how much money was in there but none of the prints cost less than $250...

I have been going to these banquest for almost 25 years and here is what I have found.

Prints don't bring much. Most people that have been going to banquets reguraly are printed out. I have them under my bed.

Now, guns are a big seller. Most banquets will have a mu;litlpe gun raffle and the first chosen gets choice. Then the next and so on. These typically bring in good money.

Yes, muzzleloaders would be a good idea or at least one.

If there is a raffle with no guns on it, I do not spend any money on that raffle.

You could always hold an ad hoc playing card rafle for a nice gun (don't make it better than your sponsor gun) that's unannounced. It feeds on the "impluse buy" mentality similar to the grocery isle and is usually well-received by the audience. You need to understand the spending tendencies of your audience but if you had a small audience and used one deck the odds are typically more favorable for the player, because of this you can charge more, there's an element of surprise when you roll it out, there's less time to "bargain shop" the prize compared to the others, and it stimulates the crowd before the live auction.

Another thing to consider for a change of pace raffle item is a custom Walleye rod. The majority of attendees also fish and hardly anyone would pass up an opportunity at an upgrade for their gear. If you can get someone to donate a custom rod you could make this a card raffle item at $10/card for a fast $520 to the cause.

PM me if you would like any details.

Thanks for ideas and advice! Going to have meeting tomorrow to finalize stuff, so not sure what all will make it this year, as time is short and the format what pretty set up already by expereinced guy. But we want to shake it up a bit with some fun stuff.

I will post it later this week in appropriate thread/area, but in general there is a new East Metro Chapter of MWA that started up, and having banquet on April 12 in Maplewood at the Moose Lodge.

Thanks again for the ideas and things to look out for! Maybe see some of you there wink
