Need advice on a new ice fishing bag/rod holder...

Need to get another ice fishing bag/rod holder, I've had a Croxton Pond bag for years but need another bag, when I go on overnight trips, rigging for both the wife and I, too many rods for one bag.

What works for you, what kind is it, and where did you get it?

Get on the waiting list with HyCreek. Tell them you want a Revolution 8 Pole Ice Rod Case. And tell them you want updates as to if they are going to get production going again. If they can't service you by late summer, they are probably screwed again....this bag is the old Stone Legacy Revolution everyone raves about.

Also, get the full size (widest) rods slicks, cut them in thirds, and sew one end and roll the other. I use that and Otter case, and with the slicks you can easily do 5 or even 6 rods (with reels attached) just fine. I even keep my gulp jars in there. It is a bit larger, but works slick for me. I wish it had some molded in loops for clipping strap to outside, and the hinged end had "feet" to stand up better. Good luck. I sue the slicks in the cheapy bags too and it helps keep all sorted.

I got the lakewood ice pole caddy for Christmas this year. I really like it a lot. My wife got it at Thorne Bros. It is a little spendy but it is nice to have a hard case to protect your rods and has pockets on the outside for tackle. I even put my spare battery in the pocket.

I'll second the HyCreek Revolution (aka - Stone Legacy Revolution). I have had one for ?? years. Very functional. I like to use the foam pipe insulators around the rods for extra protection against tangles.

Get a plano takedown gun case, or an otter rod box. I have the gun case and it works amazing. My buddy has the otter rod box and loves it, I just dont like how big it is.

Really don't want a hard sided box, I've got one for my bow, its noisy and takes up a lot of room. Does a good job of protecting my bow but I don't have $500 ice rods to protect.

I made a rod storage device for my ice rods a few years ago, I took one of those plastic rod holders that you mount to your wall to hang up summer rods (Berkley was the brand, it holds 5 rods) I just mounted them on a couple scrap pieces of wood about 16” apart from each other, than on one side I mounted a couple bungee cords, when I am transporting the rods I pull the straps over the rods to keep them secure, then when fishing inside my portable, I just hang them on the wall by hanging bungee cords on one of the supports. what I really like about it is that they never get tangled and I can see exacly what I have on all the rods if I want to make some quick changes without fumbling though all my gear.

It works really good for keeping them organized, they are still exposed so its not the best for protecting, I think it would be better protected if I would have mounted it on plywood the length of the rods.

I keep my Thorne Brothers rod in a fully enclosed case to protect it better. But for all of my $20 combos I have been very happy with my little rod holder I built. And I have had no damage to any of the rods

I have a soft Gander Mtn carrying case. I have 6 rod and reel combos in it and it has a full length storage pockets on each side. I keep three small plano trays with all of my lures, extra line, spare gloves and stocking cap on one side. On the other side I have pliers, lighters, flashlights, fillet knives, freezer bags, hand cleaner etc. I think they are under $25. My only knock on it is that my rods get tangled up. It sure beats throwing everything in buckets and aside from my bait and flasher everything is in one place.

    • we had some nice weather yesterday and this conundrum was driving me crazy  so I drove up to the house to take another look. I got a bunch of goodies via ups yesterday (cables,  winch ratchet parts, handles, leaf springs etc).   I wanted to make sure the new leaf springs I got fit. I got everything laid out and ready to go. Will be busy this weekend with kids stuff and too cold to fish anyway, but I will try to get back up there again next weekend and get it done. I don't think it will be bad once I get it lifted up.    For anyone in the google verse, the leaf springs are 4 leafs and measure 25 1/4" eye  to eye per Yetti. I didnt want to pay their markup so just got something else comparable rated for the same weight.   I am a first time wheel house owner, this is all new to me. My house didn't come with any handles for the rear cables? I was told this week by someone in the industry that cordless drills do not have enough brake to lower it slow enough and it can damage the cables and the ratchets in the winches.  I put on a handle last night and it is 100% better than using a drill, unfortatenly I found out the hard way lol and will only use the ICNutz to raise the house now.
    • I haven’t done any leaf springs for a long time and I can’t completely see the connections in your pics BUT I I’d be rounding up: PB Blaster, torch, 3 lb hammer, chisel, cut off tool, breaker bar, Jack stands or blocks.   This kind of stuff usually isn’t the easiest.   I would think you would be able to get at what you need by keeping the house up with Jack stands and getting the pressure off that suspension, then attack the hardware.  But again, I don’t feel like I can see everything going on there.
    • reviving an old thread due to running into the same issue with the same year of house. not expecting anything from yetti and I already have replacement parts ordered and on the way.   I am looking for some input or feedback on how to replace the leaf springs themselves.    If I jack the house up and remove the tire, is it possible to pivot the axel assembly low enough to get to the other end of the leaf spring and remove that one bolt?   Or do I have to remove the entire pivot arm to get to it? Then I also have to factor in brake wire as well then. What a mess   My house is currently an hour away from my home at a relatives, going to go back up and look it over again and try to figure out a game plan.           Above pic is with house lowered on ice, the other end of that leaf is what I need to get to.   above pic is side that middle bolt broke and bottom 2 leafs fell out here is other side that didnt break but you can see bottom half of leaf already did but atleast bolt is still in there here is hub assembly in my garage with house lowered and tires off when I put new tires on it a couple months ago. hopefully I can raise house high enough that it can drop down far enough and not snap brake cable there so I can get to that other end of the leaf spring.
    • Chef boyardee pizza from the box!
    • Or he could go with leech~~~~~
    • Bear can relate too. Tell Leech to start a new account named Leech5, we'll know who he is.If he has any trouble, Bear can walk him through it.
