My old Stanley Door opener puked. I need a new one. I am looking at either a do it yourself Chamberlin vs a professional installed Liftmaster. What is the difference? The Liftmaster costs twice as much. But from what I can tell are the same opener. Anyone have some insight?

The guts of a chamberlain or craftsman are the same, as are the same of a professionally installed LiftMaster. The only difference is the rail that the traveler rides on. The do it yourself rails are normally a 3-4 piece square piece of tubing that connects together with a half chain/half cable guide that the traveler actually hooks to. The professionally installed ones have a solid steel "T" rail and either a solid chain or solid belt drive that wraps the entire length of the opener and rail.
