I picked up my LX 7 today and i was playing around with it, what exactly does the dynamic depth do? Also in the simulatopr mode is the depth supposed to change everyonce in a while? They told me it had the 2.9 update and it was also written on the top of the box when I bought it. I cant wait to use it.

The simulater mode does change all the time. Dnyamic depth allows you to view more of the water column on the flasher. Say if you were fishing in 10 feet of water, but the flasher was in the 20 foot scale. You would only see the water column on half of the display. This allows whatever depth you are at to be displayed on the whole screen not just half. Allowing for you to see more seperation between targets.

Dynamic depth utilizes the full canvas to increase resolution and target separation. Just as stated above say when in twelve feet of water it sets your range to 13. Now the entire screen is utilized. I have been using it on Upper red and its great, that and the ten foot scale they added made a huge difference.

The simulator is great for playing around with some of the settings and features, but the simulator is set in an open water application where the depth is changing all the time.

Dynamic depth works as the others have said, it maximizes your flasher dial for whatever depth you're in ---- it's a great ice fishing application ---- not so much for open water where the depth is changing all the time.

For ice fishing I've been using my LX-7 on Dyamic Depth and Auto Zoom --- they're great for ice fishing ---- drop the transducer in an ice hole where the depth isn't changing, and it automatically maximizes the target seperation and locks the zoom on the bottom. Works even if you're hole-hopping and the depth changes from hole to hole!
