Recommended Posts

I have a 2001 chev 1500 it doesnt get driven much about 2 months ago it started right up and i drove it on a 40 mile trip after I shut it of did some shopping I had to crank in over for about 30 secs to get it to start then it ran fine so i drove it the next couple of days same thing would happen every time the truck sat it would start and every time it had been driven it would take longer to start but there was no check engine light or anything so after driving it couple of days it fixed its self so I thought it was good then I let it set for 2-3 weeks and the problem is back and now it tripped a check engine light. I dont have code reader any body got any ideas

Is the engine running ok? I have seen a fuel pressure regulator start to leak bad enough that it causes missfires and will turn on cel. Simple way to check it(its on the end of the fuel rail) pull the vacuum line off it while its running. There should be no fuel present. This will also cause a longer crank time when the engine is warm.

The symptom you have described is known as an Extended Crank.

The fuel pressure regulator leaking is a very common source of this problem and the easiest thing to check first.

DO NOT BUY ANYTHING THAT ORIELEY'S RECOMMENDS AFTER PULLING CODES FROM YOR VEHICLE WITHOUT FIRST GETTING MORE INFO ON THE CODE THEY PULLED! They are parts specialists not diagnosticians!
