It does really depend how warm you want it. I have been working on finishing a wheelhouse and up until I had my furnace hooked up I was using my Mr. Buddy to heat it. Had to turn it off after an hour on low cause it got to warm to work in it. I have actually slept in it with the Mr. Buddy heater on a couple of very cold nights ( made sure the window was cracked open ) and did a carbon monoxide test in the wheelhouse. Plugged in my carbon monoxide detector, cranked the heater up to high for 2 hours, then set it on low for around 4 hours, temp in the wheelhouse was 82 degrees and it never tripped the detector. I had one window cracked about 2 inches, and the outside temp was 23 degrees. I realize that this is not a scientific test as it was sitting in the driveway not on ice and it has not been all that cold this winter, but I did use it several times last year in very unusual flipover that is 3 feet wide x 15 feet long and we found it to be very comfortable.

It depends mostly on how much wind you have, and if it is calm you will be just fine, I have noticed that when the wind is blowing 25mph my big buddy is on high just to keep it warm in my 2 person flip over. I have seen a "buddy" heat a smaller 6'x10' shack just fine where the door was shut and the house was banked. My "big buddy" is rated at 18,000btu's which is what some 8'x16' come with... I also like my portable to be t-shirt warm though. it makes it more comfy to fish in.
