Was on the lakes today and the lakes had good snow for travel. Went by Rainy and it looked terrible. I think the wind blew most of it off compared to the other lakes.

Lucas: Considering one would have to travel on a logging road to get to a lake, would you go 4 wheeler or snowmobile? There are some rocky areas on the logging road. How much snow is on the ground? Your reply would be much appreciated. Thanks, Dave

We just got about an inch of fresh snow last night. Every trail varies, but I opened a trail into a trout lake in our area that we use an old logging road to get in. It is probably prettty similar, and there was enough snow for snowmachine. Travel with either is good right now, but I would prefer snowmobile myself.

Lucas: Have you been up towards Lower Manitou lately? If so, what would you estimate the snow depth at? We are going to a smaller lake in the general area and I'm still agonizing over quads or snowmobiles. We have to haul all our gear in otter sleds, not just fishing equipment, and I'm concerned about having enough traction using quads to get up the hills just to get to the lake. Is there enough snow to cover most of the rocks? If so, then snowmobiles would seem the way to go. Please advise, thanks, Dave

Dave - The portages a couple days ago were pretty sparse in areas depending on the canopy. Snow cover in the bush is minimal, maybe a couple of inches on the trails. It was hard getting on and off the lake with snowmachine with the rocks. To make things worse, it is raining currently. It is supposed to change to snow and get 2-5cm. Then some more in the forcast for the next few days. I know that is not much help, but the best I can give.
