chad austin
I would put treated plywoodd on the floor!!!! +1 If that OSB gets any moisture in/on it, it will cause major issues. With the moisture issues of pulling it to wet carpet, that stuff will crumble within a few years. I think even if it was going to be sealed with a paint on product you'll still have problems. I'd hate to see your hard work crumble before your eyes. I realize that this particular product is treated for damp applications BUT no tests have been run on this product except what the manufacture has done. Either way if moisture gets into the OSB it's going to be bad.
tip-up king
No primer. Wiped the whole thing down with brake cleaner and then applied the top coat.
tip-up king
The lumberyard had this stuff submerged in water for 6 weeks for testing and it didn't swell or shrink. The place they get it from, recommends it for marine applications. The underside will be spray foamed and the top side will be Herculined. It's not a spongy feel either like the green treated was and lays nice and flat like a floor should. Thank you for the input though, I appreciate it. Rube
+1 on that. The chip board will get soft spots in a couple of years, replacing it then would be one ugly job. Maybe giving the bottom side a very good coating of paint or something like that might help- but I don't know. I used 5/8" treated on mine. Who knows, in a couple years this may be the stuff everybody is using for their wheelhouse floors. After being in the construction industry for the last 14 years, I personally wouldn't use it as I have seen the effects of moisture vs OSB and the moisture always wins .Granted regular OSB is untreated. Give us an update down the road and let us know how it's holding up, I'm curious to know. Good luck, I hope it works well for you. Do you know if they suggest sealing any cut ends or penetrations like screws or does the sealing process run all the way through the sheet? tip-up king
They said I shouldn't have to seal cuts and ends because the glue content is so high. However, I plan to cut the floor pieces to fit and Herculine the outer edges and the edges of the fishing holes before screwing it down just to be safe. tip-up king
The floor is down, glued and screwed with self tappers. I used a 23/32" product called Advantech. I haven't seen this used in a fish house application before, but I did quite a bit of research and this seems a lot better than treated plywood. It is used extensively in high end enclosed trailers, and most manufacturers warrant it for 15-25 years...exposed to the elements both top and bottom. I'll have spray foam on the underside, and Rhino Liner on the top, so there really won't be much if any moisture getting to the wood. This is from Lip-Ripper Guy's house build post. He is using Advantech which is the same stuff I'm using just a different brand.
Lip_Ripper Guy
Yup....Advantech is what I used. No issues whatsoever with it, nor do I anticipate any.
tip-up king
My little helper. Have to go over the seams again and do the edges yet. This will be 1 gallon applied. Then the floor is done.
JakeJ_Mn
Looks good. Just wondering why you put the tank holder off to the side. Mine was origially installed like that and I got tired of cleaning off the road slush. I have mine centered on the tongue. Jake
tip-up king
My furnace intake and exhaust is going to go out the front. I'm going to build a tread plate cover for the tanks.
Eric_Kruger
Looking good. We were talking about buying a frame and building one next year. great to see how everyone does it in these build threads!
c0untryf1sh3r
Lookin good tip-up. Do you plan on laying carpet over the rhino liner? I just noticed, looking back through the pictures, that you have straps instead of cables on the winches. Nice idea there, no need to worry about the cables rusting. tip-up king
No plans for carpet. This should make for easy cleanup of ice shavings, water or mud. I have buddies that switched to the straps and have had really good luck with them. Others have mentioned them getting stiff and breaking when wet or frozen and I have never seen that happen. randerson
Advantech I believe has a 50yr warranty and is used in all high end ice shacks built now much better than treated plywood it wont get that wavy look
tip-up king
Getting started on it again. Taping on 28ga steel siding, will be trimming it with aluminum tread plate and purchased rubber for the roof. Picked up a 4kw Onan gen set for it too. tip-up king
3M tape and all the corners will have tread plate screwed on over the siding.
Jeremy airjer W
3M tape, no kidding. I know that stuff is strong but I would have never of thought to use it for this.

simple1
I saw your little helper.... It reminds me of mine. I love having my kids help me with everything I do. Even if it adds hours to the project I would not trade it for the world. I just count them as memories. Gotta love it.Simple1
tip-up king
I was questioning my helper about a roll of the 3M tape that went missing. At $56/roll, I was quite concerned. I was delayed two days before I found the tape placed perfectly under a jug of bleach under the sink. She still won't come clean on the disappearance of the tape but thats ok. She's only helping, right? Wouldn't trade the together time for the world either! I'm thankful that she likes to go to daddy's shop once in awhile. Got the two windows installed.
