Wish-I-Were-Fishn
I have a Panasonic digital camera that records HD video in .mts file format. What can I use to view these on a PC??
Jim43
Google ffdshow and find a installer, it will install all the audio and video codecs your computer needs to view these with WMP or any other video player.
Moose
Here's a list of free ones from cnet downloads. I use the free hd converter one. It works but is kind of clunky to use. The first one seems a little better good thing is these are free downloads and software so if you don't like one you can try another. I went to cnet downloads and typed in avchd to mtshttp://download.cnet.com/1770-20_4-0.html?query=avchd+to+mts&searchtype=downloads&rpp=10&filter=licenseName=Free|platform=Windows|&filterName=licenseName=Free|platform=Windows|&tag=pe-searchFacetsTile;navForm
spearchucker
Windows 7 will play these with MediaPlayer right out of the box without installing anything I believe. We have a Canon camcorder that records in the same format and it works fine.

Jim43
Read my previous post and install the ffdshow codecs and your computer will play any type of video file made.
upnorth
Did the camera come with a CD? If so there could very well be a .mts player included with the camera. You may just need to install it.
ankaka
Windows 7 will play these with MediaPlayer.

Yep, this is solution with XP or Vista. Vista may have had an update that allows them to play, but at first this was not the case.Or go to Panasonic's camera online center and see if you can download a program to view the mts files. Sony has one and maybe a possibility (Google "Picture Motion Browser"). Just not sure compatibility with XP but see no reason why it should not be compatible. Shack
Read my previous post and install the ffdshow codecs and your computer will play any type of video file made. I have had luck with the third-party/aftermarket XP codec packs but they can jog you around and around for awhile before you get them 100% correct and solid stable.
