4-Cycle oil in a 2-Cycle motor

Jmeyers

Question

I bought 4 Cycle oil at the ice show a few weeks ago not remebering my Strikemaster Magnum takes 2-Cycle. I don't have a problem going out to buy 2-cycle but wanted to know how harmful it would be to use the 4 cylce in the Solo?

You can do it in a pinch but its not a good idea if you dont need to do it. The difference is that two-stroke oil has a much lower ash content, in order to minimize deposits that form from it. Prolonged use will cause problems and it may smoke more and smell differently. I guess I'd save it for the snow blower or 4 wheeler rather than use it and put in the right stuff to be on the safe side.

Back 50 years ago there was no 2 cycle oil, we used no. 30 in the chain saws.

But you also fouled the spark plugs quite regularly though, didn't you?

2 cycle oil is so cheap I wouldn't risk it.
