they are a nice first auger. I run a Magnum III+ that is 20 years old and it still looks and runs like new. they are good units just take care of it and it should last along time. the one thing about them they are the chipper style blade not the lazer drill. you can get a lazer drill unit for it later if you choose to. I sold my 8 1/4" chipper drill unit off it and got a 10 1/4" chipper then last year I went to a 10" lazer drill unit on it and the 10 1/4" went to my brother in law since my nephew wreck theirs by drilling half way into the ice and left it like that and the ice shifted and it got stuck. he had to cut the shaft off after he bent it when he tried to pull it out.

You'll like the chipper style blades. I have used both and the nice thing with the chipper blade is when they are dull they will still cut. When the Lazer blades are dull you might as well quit for the day because there is nothing you can do to make them cut.

+1 Brad B. Still running the Mag lll love those chipper blades 3 pulls and she's running 15 years straight. Just remember to drain the gas at the end of the season then keep starting it till all the gas is out of the carb.

I never drain it. I run stabilized gas and amsoil in it. if you run the carb dry you can wreck the diapham in the carb. it dries out and cracks. it is better to leave treated gas in it and just start it once a month or every other month so nothing builds up in the carb.

this unit started as my father but he passed away and I got it from my mother. in all these years it has only been tuned up once. and had the blade changed at that time.

I have a Strikemaster Mag III that is at least 15 years old, I thought I had fried it a couple of years ago when the hubby filled it with gas that had no oil in it. So I went out and bought the Strikemaster Mag 2000. We refilled the Mag III with gas with amsoil and after about 15 pulls it fired right up. I have someone in mind to bequeath it to that could really use one.

i just got a used older strikemaster magnum 3 with the 8 inch mora on it. runs awsome and i cnat wait to use it.. all i need is some ice.. i dont like the smoke so i am gonna try to get the amsoil pro for it and a jc8 plug becouse i was told it is a hotter plug and i was told that it cut ice good but seemed to lack the power, this unit is in real good shape, good for its age. it is actually a osceola equipment magnum 3 mod 110 with the 200 2cycle motor .....bill

I would look for the Amsoil saber. I don't know if there is a difference but everything I have heard has been about the saber and that is what I switched to last season.

How is the StrikeMaster 8-1/4 Inch Magnum Ice Auger? i am geting it for chirstmas.
I think these over time have been the highest selling and most durable augers out there. They have been around for a long time and just about everyone has had one at some point. I'm on my third one in about the last 25 years. They may not be the fastest auger on the market but they may have drilled more holes than any other! wink

Have had my mag 2000 since 2005 and it runs perfect. You will probably get the new solo motor on yours which should be great. My dad runs a million year old mag 3 and loves it. Why is it when you buy something for 100 bucks and it's a flawless machine for years and years you just feel like a new one can't replace it. Thats the trust pops has with his.
