Tee shirt ads and ice fishing

FishinFools

Recommended Posts

Either I am getting too old, or have kids that shouldn't be interested in ice fishing, or ?

(bring on the wet blanket!)

BUT (one T) what is the deal with the very nice young girls in tee shirts on this site lately?

I got no problem with beautiful women (and, thank you God, BTW) but my son, whom I hope to think will grow into one of us fishing folk for life, asked me today, "Dad, does that mean she isn't wearing pants in this picture?".

Just saying. Really?

I had a great professor in a graduate marketing class who said it best, and I have not forgotten it: "if the product involves sex, by all means, use sex in your marketing. "

We want to buy fishing stuff. And get the next generation interested enough to sift through a forum looking for answers to their fishing questions.

(ok, off the stump. Fire away.)

Those ads you are seeing are specific to those who are viewing them or the topic like this one. They are Google ads and based off of cookies cached within your/the users browser. All I see is fishing and cloud computing ads. Have not seen anything like this???? Of course these ads are based off of the sites, better said served, you visit or have visited. Clear your cache, cookies and Internet history. Also watch what other sites you or your PC' s users are going to. I can post more on this when I get to a PC. wink

I clear cookies, cache, and internet history all the time (call me paranoid if you want) and I get the same ads.

Calling baloney on the user browser angle.

Just wanted to re-emphasize laugh (LOL) that these ads can be based upon the popular content within a forum and even more specific to the threads content (words) which are typed. I would suspect that since this thread has "this" content in within it, Google will serve ads based on it. Google likes HSO and crawlers are always here looking for fresh and new content. Google ads has their own crawlers, but they are just as dedicated to delivering what the topic needs in related ads.

Here is a snip-it from Google:

Advertising Cookie, Ads Personalization and Opting Out

When you are accessing the web through a web browser, Google uses cookies to improve your online experience, including the display of more relevant ads. Learn more about how Google uses advertising cookies.

Anyone may opt out of the DoubleClick cookie (for AdSense partner sites, DoubleClick ad serving, and certain Google services using the DoubleClick cookie) at any time by clicking the button above. Google also offers a number of options to permanently save your opt-out settings in your browser. In addition, Google allows third party advertisers to serve ads on the Google Display Network. Using a tool created by the Network Advertising Initiative, you can opt out of several third party ad servers’ and networks’ cookies simultaneously. (Google also uses cookies for Google Analytics and conversion tracking. Read more about this in our FAQ below.)

To serve ads in applications and other clients where cookie technology is not available, we have engineered an anonymous ID by associating your device ID with a random, anonymous string of characters. You may choose to reset or opt out of anonymous IDs at any time. If you choose to reset, we will associate your device identifier with a new anonymous ID. If you choose to opt out, ads delivered to your application or other client by our ad-serving technology will not be served based on an anonymous ID. Read more about device specific preference managers.

The ads that appear with search results on Google can be personalized based on your Google Account or customized for your web browser. Using previous queries and Web History can help us provide more relevant ads to you. Learn more about ads personalization on Google.

Ads that appear next to Gmail messages can also be personalized based on emails in your account. Read more about ads in Gmail and your personal data.

Google may use your Google account information, such as items you +1 on Google properties and across the web, to personalize content and ads on non-Google websites. If you’d like to control how you see +1 recommendations from people you know, and how your +1 recommendations are shown to others, please visit the +1 button account setting page.

I see the same ads that he is talking about. I don't get them at home when on my home computer (at least I don't notice them) but when I'm at work and pull up the forum on my work computer sure enough there's the girl with the tight t-shirt seemingly on every page.

I can assure you that it doesn't take any sort of sketchy web browsing to populate the ads. Web use for me is the HSO forum, maybe facebook, and espn.

I'm guessing google can probably look at the 3 main sites I visit and determine that I'm a male between the ages of 18-35 and then sends the ads my way. Maybe if you aren't seeing them google thinks you're an old fart that isn't interested any more. shocked

Google does not condone that subject and thus has nothing to do with that. wink

This better discribes what I am trying to get across:

What information does Google use to serve me ads on the web?

We serve ads through our Ad programs on our own websites, as well as on the Google Display Network. We also serve ads on partner websites through our Ad programs, and also on third party partner sites and certain Google Applications and other clients. We use a variety of methods to deliver ads that are relevant.

For the Google Display Network, we serve ads based on the content of the site you view and may also use other partner data to target ads. For example, if you visit a gardening site, ads on that site may be related to gardening. In addition, we may serve ads based on your interests. As you browse websites that have partnered with us or Google sites using the DoubleClick cookie, such as YouTube, Google may place the DoubleClick cookie in your browser to understand the types of pages visited or content that you viewed. To serve ads that are relevant and tailored to your interests in applications or other clients that use an anonymous ID, we may use information about your activity in applications or other clients. Based on this information and/or anonymized partner data, Google associates your browser or anonymous ID with relevant interest categories and uses these categories to show interest-based ads. For example, if you frequently visit travel websites, Google may show more ads related to travel. Or, if you download a golf application, Google may show you ads related to golf. Google can also use the types of pages that you have visited or content that you have viewed to infer your gender and the age category you belong to. For example, If the sites that you visit have a majority of female visitors (based on aggregated survey data on site visitation), we may associate your cookie with the female demographic category.

In addition to ads based on interest categories, Google allows advertisers (including Google) to show you ads based on your previous interactions online, such as visits to advertisers’ websites. For example, someone who visited the website of an online sporting goods store can receive ads about special offers from that store.

Google will not associate sensitive interest categories with your browser or anonymous ID (such as those based on race, religion, sexual orientation, health, or sensitive financial categories), and will not use such categories when showing you interest-based ads.

This would happen because the info collected is instantaneously feed back to Google. It is not based upon a collection of data every other day or week or month. This will also depend on which browser you are using and if you have a Google account associated with it or not. Personally I have my browser set to expire cookies and cache and history every time it is closed for development and non-mixing of interest reasons. You can also use ad blocking services and apps, but personally I like to see the ads as they are served based on what is fresh and new. He is the riskiest ads I have viewed in the last ten forums I has broswered here:

I assume it is because I have a citi account. wink

    • It’s done automatically.  You might need an actual person to clear that log in stuff up.   Trash your laptop history if you haven’t tried that already.
    • 😂 yea pretty amazing how b o o b i e s gets flagged, but they can't respond or tell me why I  can't get logged in here on my laptop but I can on my cellular  😪
    • I grilled some brats yesterday, maybe next weekend will the next round...
    • You got word censored cuz you said        B o o b ies….. haha.   Yeah, no… grilling is on hiatus for a bit.
    • Chicken mine,  melded in Mccormick poultry seasoning for 24 hours.  Grill will get a break till the frigid temps go away!
    • we had some nice weather yesterday and this conundrum was driving me crazy  so I drove up to the house to take another look. I got a bunch of goodies via ups yesterday (cables,  winch ratchet parts, handles, leaf springs etc).   I wanted to make sure the new leaf springs I got fit. I got everything laid out and ready to go. Will be busy this weekend with kids stuff and too cold to fish anyway, but I will try to get back up there again next weekend and get it done. I don't think it will be bad once I get it lifted up.    For anyone in the google verse, the leaf springs are 4 leafs and measure 25 1/4" eye  to eye per Yetti. I didnt want to pay their markup so just got something else comparable rated for the same weight.   I am a first time wheel house owner, this is all new to me. My house didn't come with any handles for the rear cables? I was told this week by someone in the industry that cordless drills do not have enough brake to lower it slow enough and it can damage the cables and the ratchets in the winches.  I put on a handle last night and it is 100% better than using a drill, unfortatenly I found out the hard way lol and will only use the ICNutz to raise the house now.
    • I haven’t done any leaf springs for a long time and I can’t completely see the connections in your pics BUT I I’d be rounding up: PB Blaster, torch, 3 lb hammer, chisel, cut off tool, breaker bar, Jack stands or blocks.   This kind of stuff usually isn’t the easiest.   I would think you would be able to get at what you need by keeping the house up with Jack stands and getting the pressure off that suspension, then attack the hardware.  But again, I don’t feel like I can see everything going on there.
    • reviving an old thread due to running into the same issue with the same year of house. not expecting anything from yetti and I already have replacement parts ordered and on the way.   I am looking for some input or feedback on how to replace the leaf springs themselves.    If I jack the house up and remove the tire, is it possible to pivot the axel assembly low enough to get to the other end of the leaf spring and remove that one bolt?   Or do I have to remove the entire pivot arm to get to it? Then I also have to factor in brake wire as well then. What a mess   My house is currently an hour away from my home at a relatives, going to go back up and look it over again and try to figure out a game plan.           Above pic is with house lowered on ice, the other end of that leaf is what I need to get to.   above pic is side that middle bolt broke and bottom 2 leafs fell out here is other side that didnt break but you can see bottom half of leaf already did but atleast bolt is still in there here is hub assembly in my garage with house lowered and tires off when I put new tires on it a couple months ago. hopefully I can raise house high enough that it can drop down far enough and not snap brake cable there so I can get to that other end of the leaf spring.
