Lazer Mag vs Lazer Pro

Hey guys, Looking to pick up a 10" auger this season.

These augers are basically identical except the Mag has 2.5 HP with 42 cc's and the Pro has 3 HP with 54 cc's

Is the horse and cc's worth anything in the real world? So far all I've heard is the 3 HP is a loud beast.

Any opinions, anyone owned or ran both?

The 3hr. is a beast..I have both. I ended up getting a quick change system for the auger..so i can change from a 8 to 10 or the outher way around. The 2.5 seems to turn the 10" just fine. I like an 8" hole for the perm and when i have the kids with, and the 10" for the perm..Quick question.. is it bad to kill the motor by pushing in that button.( its the one that you have to push before every pull when starting) My run kill switch is broke.

No it is not bad to push the button. It is the only way I have shut mine of since day 1. I have the tekumseh but it does the same thing. It opens a valve from the cylinder so that compression cannot build up and with no compression no run. Strikemaster was recommending this on the tekumseh models as the recoil would sometimes break when the unit was shut down with the power switch and the last bit of compression would cause it to shake or jerk.

I own the 2.5 hp, and last year I ran it alongside of my 2 hp tecumpseh Lazer for a speed comparison. There was maybe one second of difference between the 2 augers in over 2 ft of ice. Both had new blades. I've never ran the 3 hp, but I can't imagine there'd be much of a difference?

No one out there has seen or heard these two ran? Wish there was a place I could see and hear both of them run before I purchased one.

Main thing is starting, an auger is worthless if it don't start when your out there freezing your seeds off.

I dont think they are any louder than the 2.5 I cant tell a differance. I own one and have been around the other.

Just got back from my first ice trip of the year up in Brainerd!! Broke out the Nils to drill my first hole and the blade is junk lol. Had to use my buddies 6-7 year old Lazer Mag Express and the pitch was out, same thing happened to me last time I owned a 10" Strike Master.

Does the pitch still go out on the 10" shafts as easy these days?
