numbers on portable

As an aside, I e-mailed DNR a couple years ago. I had a piece of plywood with my name and address on it from on old permanent that I would just lean against the portable I was using (I have 2). The St. Paul guy said that was just fine. I asked because I was thinking about the possibility of selling the house at the time and didn't want anything attached to the portable.

The following regulations apply to all shelters used on all Minnesota

waters, unless otherwise noted elsewhere in this booklet.

• All shelters placed on the ice of Minnesota waters must have either the

(

1) complete name and address, (2) driver’s license number, or (3) the

nine-digit Minnesota DNR number on the license of the owner plainly

and legibly displayed on the outside in letters, and figures at least

2 inches in height.

• A shelter may not be left unattended anytime between midnight and

one hour prior to sunrise unless the shelter is licensed.

So if u don't leave it on the lake u need a dnr #? Whats this.... I've never heard of that

yup, tis true, i bought an old 2 man sled late last year and guy said see, even an id holder attached outside and i told him thats ok, i dont need it, never out in dark or left alone, he told me still had to have & check regs, i did & he was correct.

i was told dnr does this so any officer out checking can immeiately identify via ur posted info if have a license or not with exactly what add ons on their computer. so if u r out and DNR is doing spot check, if u have not info posted outside, probably b instead red flag to them to knock on your door.

Go to page 61 of the 2011 fishing regs. http://files.dnr.state.mn.us/rlp/regulations/fishing/fishing2011.pdf#view=fit&pagemode=bookmarks

You need either name & address or driver license number or DNR number.

In fact, maybe I'm wrong, but the way I read it you don't even need to license a permanent if you don't leave it unattended between midnight and 1 hour before sunrise.

I hate the idea of having to deface my property. I would rather purchase a permit than have to scrawl numbers on the fabric with a marker. Thinking about a little peaceful protest. Maybe I'll use numbers and letters large enough to encircle the entire outside, seeing as how i'm going to have to deface it anyways.

I have never put my name or etc. on my portable. I have been checked many times and said I didn't have a place to put it. Every time they have said that it was no problem? I am there with the portable? Now if you leave it unattended that is a different issue?

Ok,

So here's the question.

If i'm staying in a sleeper house, and leave my portable set up outside to use as a crpper shak, is it considered unattended?

This, just like alot of questions that come up about what is right or what is wrong will be a judgement call by the C.O. If he is having a bad day or you come across as a jerk he may just decide to write you up on it, and let the Judge decide. I don't push the envelope on stuff like this. You could say that there are no holes drill under the port. so it can't be considered a fish house. You could still end up in court if you want to push the issue. I have better things to do with my time.

Yep, that's the number. Once you have a DNR number it will be on every license you get from them. My ATV registration has the same 9 digit number on it as my fishing license, fish house license, etc. That's how they identify you.

    • Wanderer, thanks for your reply. I do intend for it to be 24 volt, with a thrust of 70-80. Spot lock is a must (my wife is looking forward to not being the anchor person any more).  With my old boat we did quite a lot of pulling shad raps and hot n tots, using the trolling motor. Unlikely that we will fish in whitecaps, did plenty of that when I was younger. I also need a wireless remote, not going back to a foot pedal. We do a fair amount of bobber fishing. I don't think I will bother with a depth finder on the trolling motor. I am leaning toward moving my Garmin depth finder from my old boat to the new one, just because I am so used to it and it works well for me. I am 70 years old and kinda set in my ways...
    • Dang, new content and now answers.   First, congrats on the new boat!   My recommendation is to get the most thrust you can in 24V, assuming a boat that size isn’t running 36V.  80 might be tops?  I’m partial to MinnKota.     How do you plan to use the trolling motor is an important question too.     All weather or just nice weather?   Casting a lot or bait dragging?   Bobber or panfish fishing?   Spot lock?  Networked with depth finders?  What brand of depth finders?
    • We have bought a new boat, which we will be picking up this spring. It is an Alumacraft Competitor 165 sport with a 90 horse Yamaha motor. I will be buying and installing a trolling motor,  wondering if I can get some recommendations on what pound thrust I will want for this boat?  Also, I will be selling my old boat, is there a good way to determine the value on an older boat ( mid-80's with a 75 horse 2-stroke  Mariner motor)  I will appreciate any help with these questions.
    • Sketti...  not out of a jar either!
    • Lol yeah I watched that
    • I went ahead and watched some of the MLF coverage.  Wheeler didn’t make the cut but the bigger story was the Poche/Avera fallout.   Kinda funny listening to both sides of the story and putting together the scenario, reading between the lines.
    • Yeah we fished like 6 or 7 lakes down here.
