I just bought a 1490lt this afternoon to use with my Garmin LakeMaster chip. I plan on mounting it to my ATV. You can zoom in pretty good. Scrolling around is kinda goofy, smartphones work better. But I don't want to mount my iPhone on my ATV.

Found out that using my fingernail or a stylus worked better than using my finger. I can move around it very well now. I am currently copying over my existing waypoints from MapSource into the nuvi.

I have the NUVI 500 and love it. Take it in the truck and then put it on the 4 wheeler with a ram mount and no problem in 3 years now. I can zoom in on any part of the lake. I got the CD lakemaster so I can plan things out on the computer at home and transfer it all to the NUVI when I have spots picked out.

I also have the nuvi500 (waterproof) i use it both in summer fishing and winter ice fishing. zoom works just as good as with any other portable gps i've seen/used. Touch screen works well, having a stylus does help but is kinda a pain to carry around. Screen size is nice, wouldn't complain though if it was a little bigger.... say 5" that would be nice. Overall I like it and would purchase again if something happened to my current Nuvi500

Hoey,

Which Nuvi do you have?

2 things to check

1. Make sure you have the latest updates from Garmin, they are free software upgrades.

2. There is a MAPS area in your menu, make sure the Lakemaster data is checkmarked if it is listed there, uncheck any other maps.

One last thing, it has to be a Garmin Lakemaster chip.

I did download it on a micro sd card and put it in the nuvi. After that I just plug the nuvi into the computer and transfer the way points between the two. That way I can save them all on the computer also. I'm not sure if you can use the card in more than one unit but you can put the cd on more than one computer. I have it on two computers.

Smoker, Can you put the information on a micro sd card from the cd and put it in the Nuvi to use the next day? How many units can you use the cd version on?

Can only be used on one unit. I believe you can put it on a chip. But that chip is tied to the Garmin unit you registered the CD with during your install.

Mike,

Thanks for the recommendation. I spent two hours with Tim and Cabelas last night. The guy knows a lot. HumminBird now owns LakeMaster. LakeMaster chips are now only available for HumminBirds.. HumminBird offers no hand-held units. Bummer as only half of my old Lawrance H2O screen works - so I need a different GPS solution for ice fishing, in the truck, on the ATV, on the Snowmobile, etc... Thinking a console, type mount with a built-in antenna would be nice, but too bulky for ATV/Snowmobile, but usable as a flasher and useable from the boat in summer.

So a NUVI solution would be nice. Thanks again.

Hey guys I was searching the garmin site and i saw that they had there minnesota lake maps cd on sale for 50. I have a nuvi 200/205 is it worth it?

I've got a 250 which is basically the same as your 200/205 and it works very good for giving you reference to where you are in relation to to the depths ( I've got a Lakemaster Woods / Rainy chip ), navigating to a waypoint is a little more difficult than a handheld or a Nuvi 500 but you can do it.

If you plan on keeping and using the Nuvi for a while, I think it's worth it, if you think there might be a possibility of an upgrade in the future, I would probably use the CD on that instead...... reason being the battery life of a handheld is much better and navigating to a waypoint is easier.

Mike,

It is a 350 with software updated earlier this year.

Keith

That 350 is a slightly different than my 250 but there should be an area in there that references to MAP DATA or MAP INFO.

On my 250, from the main page its, TOOLS> SETTINGS> MAP> MAP INFO That gives me a list of maps loaded on my Nuvi 250, whether it's a internal map or data on a MicroSD card, then you just checkmark which map you want.

    • It’s done automatically.  You might need an actual person to clear that log in stuff up.   Trash your laptop history if you haven’t tried that already.
    • 😂 yea pretty amazing how b o o b i e s gets flagged, but they can't respond or tell me why I  can't get logged in here on my laptop but I can on my cellular  😪
    • I grilled some brats yesterday, maybe next weekend will the next round...
    • You got word censored cuz you said        B o o b ies….. haha.   Yeah, no… grilling is on hiatus for a bit.
    • Chicken mine,  melded in Mccormick poultry seasoning for 24 hours.  Grill will get a break till the frigid temps go away!
    • we had some nice weather yesterday and this conundrum was driving me crazy  so I drove up to the house to take another look. I got a bunch of goodies via ups yesterday (cables,  winch ratchet parts, handles, leaf springs etc).   I wanted to make sure the new leaf springs I got fit. I got everything laid out and ready to go. Will be busy this weekend with kids stuff and too cold to fish anyway, but I will try to get back up there again next weekend and get it done. I don't think it will be bad once I get it lifted up.    For anyone in the google verse, the leaf springs are 4 leafs and measure 25 1/4" eye  to eye per Yetti. I didnt want to pay their markup so just got something else comparable rated for the same weight.   I am a first time wheel house owner, this is all new to me. My house didn't come with any handles for the rear cables? I was told this week by someone in the industry that cordless drills do not have enough brake to lower it slow enough and it can damage the cables and the ratchets in the winches.  I put on a handle last night and it is 100% better than using a drill, unfortatenly I found out the hard way lol and will only use the ICNutz to raise the house now.
    • I haven’t done any leaf springs for a long time and I can’t completely see the connections in your pics BUT I I’d be rounding up: PB Blaster, torch, 3 lb hammer, chisel, cut off tool, breaker bar, Jack stands or blocks.   This kind of stuff usually isn’t the easiest.   I would think you would be able to get at what you need by keeping the house up with Jack stands and getting the pressure off that suspension, then attack the hardware.  But again, I don’t feel like I can see everything going on there.
    • reviving an old thread due to running into the same issue with the same year of house. not expecting anything from yetti and I already have replacement parts ordered and on the way.   I am looking for some input or feedback on how to replace the leaf springs themselves.    If I jack the house up and remove the tire, is it possible to pivot the axel assembly low enough to get to the other end of the leaf spring and remove that one bolt?   Or do I have to remove the entire pivot arm to get to it? Then I also have to factor in brake wire as well then. What a mess   My house is currently an hour away from my home at a relatives, going to go back up and look it over again and try to figure out a game plan.           Above pic is with house lowered on ice, the other end of that leaf is what I need to get to.   above pic is side that middle bolt broke and bottom 2 leafs fell out here is other side that didnt break but you can see bottom half of leaf already did but atleast bolt is still in there here is hub assembly in my garage with house lowered and tires off when I put new tires on it a couple months ago. hopefully I can raise house high enough that it can drop down far enough and not snap brake cable there so I can get to that other end of the leaf spring.
