I just threw this up on their FB Page:

It has come to my attention that there are some lake here in MN on the Android App that were much better resolution with the "old" version (specifically Voyageurs National Park). Some are going back to the old version because of that. They paid for an "upgrade" but now have lower resolution. Also there are a couple of bugs in the new App. 1. If you download an entire region, you may have 10ft contours on some lakes, but if you download the same lake on it's own, the contours now are 1ft. 2. when you overlay a satellite image, the majority of the time you lose the depth numbers. I will also send an email to your app team. Merry Christmas.

I just got an actual written reply back from them and not a canned response.

These lakes that you are referring to are covered on our current apps, and include the most recent chart information available for these areas. The current versions of the Navionics Mobile apps are using the most current chart data for all areas.

Also, the chart objects and depth soundings may appear small on certain mobile devices. This will have to do with the screen size and resolution of the device you are using. There is no function within the app to change the size of the numbers at this time.

Lastly, there is a known issue with the depth information and chart objects disappearing when the satellite image overaly is enabled. This is currently being worked on by our software development team, and should be corrected with a future update to the app. Please always make sure to update the Navionics Mobile app to the current version to ensure that you are getting the most up to date features available.

Ok, just saw their Facebook response to our posts:

Thank you for bringing this to our attention. Starting January 9th, Navionics will correct the current contours with 1’ contours on the HD lakes. Owners of the most recent app simply need to download the same area again. The newest Android apps are aligned with the Apple Apps with regard to chart data and the same situation applies. You simply download the areas again when we make that data available on our servers. We are sorry for the inconvenience.

They finally got back to me regarding my emails, it looks like they forwarded it all the way up to the Cartography Dept...

Quote:
The mobile applications include some areas of coverage taken from our Marine product line and our HotMaps product line. The Marine product line is taken from the government charts in the area and would include the area of Lake of the Woods, Rainy Lake to Lake Superior. Currently the charting information defaults to the Marine product line information. We are currently working on changing these duplicate areas of coverage to default to our HotMaps product line which includes numerous areas in 1 foot contour intervals from surveys. This should be done some time this month – January. Please feel free to contact me if you are unable to re-download your regions of coverage on the Navionics Inc Marine&Lakes USA or Marine&Lakes US & Canada apps to view this change by the end of the month.

If you have any questions, please do not hesitate to contact me.

So, you have to wonder why they don't just let us choose marine or HD in settings. It would save 'em the trouble of defining border areas from here to timbuktu and they could "sell" it to us as a new "feature".

Turn on the one that works better for ya...

I got an update today, (well sort of, I did a factory reset on my phone and redownloaded the app) and discovered it was a new version.

So anyways the only difference I see so far is that there is no popup balloon anymore when you select a spot, instead there is a crosshair that is centered and you drag the map to select your spot. I like it better.

Just tried re-downloading Kabetogama and Namakan, they updated about half of Kab and a few spots on Nam. Anyone else seeing this or is it my phone? It sure doesn't seem like the 1' contours like before, but better than what we had.
