White-Out Combo

I just received a White-Out Combo as an early Xmas gift. I am wondering if anyone has had a chance to play with one at Gander Mountian and have any impressions. The rod seems well built and the 8 ball bearing reel is smooth.

my girlfriend works there, and i was playing around with one of them the other day. they look like a nice rod, i just would spend the money for one, as there to rich for my blood. Rod felt good in hand thow

Yeah same here.. Was at gander and thought it was a nice rod, felt good but as said above... I wouldn't spend the money for it.

I liked the rods but wasn't overly impressed with the reel.

I ended up buying one of the 28" medium rods a few weeks ago

I thought the reel felt a little stiff for the price. I wonder if it'll get worse in freezing temps

I agree, the reel didn't feel up to snuff. The rods weren't bad, but for a few dollars more, I'd just invest the money in a Thorne Bros.

I wasnt impressed either, at least at that price. What DID catch my eye at FF the other day though was the new Northland rods...

I looked at the rod and reel. The reel handle almost made me think that it was some type of P fluger reel and the 8 ball bearings seemed to reel smooth. It could get a little tight in freezing conditions if the reel lube used on it isn't for freezing temps. I would think with it being an ice rig and called the white out that they would use a good sub zero reel grease.

The rod seemed to have a nice action, and the different type of handle seemed like it would be nice since it wouldn't absorb water and stay wet. I wasn't impressed with the rubber rings that held the reel to the rod, I'd probably tape the reel on it.

I think at that price level though, I'd buy a tica reel. Those things are just sweet period.

Overall it seemed like a nice setup, but a little higher priced then I would have expected, since it was a gift though it shouldn't matter. One thing I would do is put a bright colored line on the reel so if you set it down in the snow you'd be able to find it since the whole setup was white.

The ones I looked at seemed to have a wide variety of rods. If you want a more sensitive rod you could probably do an even exchange at the store without offending the lady.
