Up and down....#$(&^%weather

This is a prime example of how weather will play havoc with your fishing plans. On a lake that had mid-fifties for water temps last week, yesterday's yield was between 49 and 51 depending on where you were and whether the sun was hitting the transducer. Today thet are forecasting highs in the 80's(?) and very high winds....like forty miles per hour plus! Can we say boat control? Now for tomorrow and the weekend as well they are talking the highs to be in the fifties....and clouds, and rain maybe, and again some wind. At 8:10 am this day is already better suited to wind surfing than fishing. If everything they predict holds together, we may have some fishing by Sunday. It would sure be nice to get a week of warm days with drizzle, fog and no wind!

I second that Tom!

Warm winds are great, however cold front winds are the pain in fishermans backs.

We are going too need some constant 80 degree weather to turn these fish back on.Fish aren't shallow anymore. They were in 13-18 ft. on Monday, and really tightlipped. That's if you didn't get blown off the lake with gale force winds and wave action.Definately not my favorite fishing scenarios.Today could be good...but tomorrow?

Good Luck....

I'm p***ed o**! I took the day off work to get some things done around the house since it was so nice. If I'd known that the wind they were predicting wasn't going to happen I would headed for the water instead.

The winds here in SE Minn are brutal right now....gusting to way up and over 40 mph. They may have been responsible for a small aircraft accident that killed on person just west of Rochester.

Rapid change in Fargo since my last post. We were at 90 degrees and 12mph winds but in the span of 90 minutes we are at 68 degrees with 38 mph winds gusting to 43 as per the NOAA HSOforum.

Still, I could have been on and off the water by now.

It's been frustrating to say the least. After many years away from fishing(no, I don't know why), I jumped in with both feet this year. Not only has it been difficult finding the fish, it's been a real lesson in boat control and hypothermia avoidance.

I figure if I can make it through this spring, I can make it through anything.

It sure can humble an angler though.

SERIOUSLY! It was THIS big!

The weather people are babbling something about the best chances for rain being tomorrow, so I think I'll wait and see what the morning brings. If it is just raining, I'm outta here and headed to the drink. This is the only senario I have not challenged yet as far as craps go this spring. I was thinking a couple of weeks that we were early with the open water here and not needing to get in a bundle over the weather....now I think we are on the opposite side of that coin and need some stability soon to settle things down. Fishing in the rain is nothing new to any of us, but there are times when things just have to change and if I have to venture into the wet zone to try and catch craps, so be it. The only things that might alter the plans are heavy rains, wind- of course-, or lightning/thunder. Or any combination thereof. The fish two days ago(Monday), were deep and in the wood real tight. When I say deep, I mean that there was MAYBE two inches betwixt the bottom and their bellies! And they had soft lips. I got some out of this kind of jungle on a tight line(no float) and the hits were VERY subtle. It is seldom that I have seen craps this soft ice fishing! The fish were in 11 feet of water and hit at the 10 and 1/2 foot mark. The weather this spring has made fishing more work than sport.
