22x
Anyone hunted any of these in the Windom area? Pheasants? Deer? How about the ones farther southwest? Just wondering what people think of them, being this is the first year. I would assume they get quite a bit of pressure...... We are heading to the Windom area this weekend & might consider trying them. Thanks Doug
R. Miller
I tried a few north of there that were pretty good early. I'd say three of the five I checked out had great pheasant cover. They seemed to really get pounded though the first few weeks of the season. In order to become a WIA they had to be previously enrolled in CRP, etc so I'm guessing there's a few good ones down there. SapperACE
We hunted a WIA in SE Murray county on opening morning. Got 2 birds and flushed several others. We got 4 more birds on a waterfowl protection piece in the same area. When a piece isn't too pressured, it will hold alot of birds (I.E. opening morning or private property that gets rested). Lately, I have been hunting both kinds of public property and it has slowed down alot. There are not alot of those walk in areas and they are well marked with neon green signs. They are getting hunted as much or more than any state ground around here. There is only 1 WIA in Cottonwood County (Windom is county seat). There is only 1 in Jackson County and the a couple in SE Murray County. All of those are within 30 minutes of Windom.I guess what i'm saying is that there are birds out there. Not as many as recent years, but they are there. If you're willing to work for them, you will have sucess. There are birds in the WIA's but as many or more on any state ground. Good luck.
