I took a couple of pictures of a nuthatch in a tree from my deer stand and noticed its eyes seem to be canted to look down as it hunts for food. (sorry for the low quality) The back corner of its eye appears to be higher then the front corner perhaps the angle aids its vision as it moves about the trunk of the tree. The second picture shows the bird squinting and the eye is clearly not horizontal wth its beak. Look at the angle of the eyelid. Anyone else ever notice this?full-6648-13726-nuthatcheye21.jpg

That second one looks kinda like me in church yesterday. Long sermon, warm in the sanctuary and the aroma of food wafting upstairs from the basement was more than I could handle. My beak almost hit the pew in front of me! grin

Good observation. Hadn't noticed how their eyes were cocked like that. Will have to pay more attention to the little guys and gals who frequent our feeders.
