I have had 2 sportsman 500's..first one I put 25"ITP 589's on it.. fabulous on ice..could pull on ice even without chains..snow was just ok..

second 500 I put on 27" ITP XTR's unbelievable in snow..haven't had much experience on ice yet

I had the same setup and agree with what you said.

I second or third the ITP Mudlite XTRs. Radials, good traction, still a smooth ride. Depending on the year of the wheeler I wouldn't go over the 26" mark.

Triple check your rim sizes. If you really have 10"ers in back you'll have to use the standard mudlites instead of the XTRs (in that brand).

As for width, I'd stay close to what you have stock. Maybe go an extra inch but wouldn't go much more as you could rub. I had to get spacers for the rear of my XP.

But when it comes to glare ice...it's like your truck...it won't matter how much snow/mud traction you have. Chains are your best option there. But for ice fishing I think you're golden with the mudlites. just my .02
