This year must have been very successful breeding season for magpies. I frequently saw a large flock of with 20 or more birds towards the end of June and they are showing up in places they usually aren't seen.

Nice, Jason! Magpies also are subject to irruptions, so that's one other possibility. I'm wondering if those 'pies are going to be cooperative late this fall and winter in the Bog.

Holy craptard! That is hands down the best magpie flight image I've seen created in Minnesota. Excellent lighting and wings down positioning!

When I first saw mapgies in the Bog, I was surprised at how skittish they were. When I lived up in the mountains in Colorado, they were much more used to and bold around people. I had a group of mapgies, Stellar jays and Clark's nutcrackers that would regularly raid the dry dog food out of the bowl before the dog could get it eaten, with me standing 10 feet away.
