klee
looking for recommendations for a waterfowl taxidermist to mount a wood duck for the husband. we are located in the twin cities.he shot his first wood duck on opening day, and hes pretty proud of it. its a nice looking wood duck too. it'll be a good memory for him because it was the dogs first time retrieving ducks, and she did really good. hes proud of her. they had fun without me, i had to work. i've looked at some online and i see the prices run from 200 to 400. need someone who can do a good job for the money but won't break the bank. thanks
MinnetonkaMan
I would highly recommend Brad at Mid America Taxidermists. He has a huge showroom with all kinds of ducks that you can look at to see his work. He is located in Savage.
dukhnt
I wouldn't use anyone but Jerry from Flyway Taxidermy out of St. Cloud. Well worth the drive. He has won the worlds championship for waterfowl taxidermy a couple of times. And he is one heck of a good guy.

Worth the drive just to see his shop. He's family so I get a deal. Has done a bufflehead and a hooded merganzer for me that I've loaned to several events for display. The price is a bit steep but he's an absolute perfectionist. You will not get a better mount anywhere period. He will be honest and straightforward with you about the quality of the mount you can expect. If your bird is too young or shot he'll politely turn you away to get a better one next time. Bowfin
We had 2 wood ducks done by Ed from Ed's Taxidermy out of Coon Rapids http://www.edstaxidermy.net/clients.html This immature woodie was my son's first duck shot when he was 9. Mr.Outdoors
I personally like Oakridge Tax just south of waterville.. great prices and great work! I have had him do a pair of woodies, pair of widgeons, and a very nice drake gadwell.. I have 4 more from last season for him to do just going to wait out this season to try to get the mates for them.
klee
We decided to go with Ed's Tax. We checked out his place and he had a lot of cool stuff on display. On tuesday my husband got a female wood duck that he just took in yesterday to add with the male, so now its a pair. Ed said it was going to take about 6-8 months. Thats pretty long. I'm excited to see what its going to look like. By that time, it'll probably be hunting season again. I'm not sure of the process, but I rather it be done nicely than fast and with poor quality. I will post pix up when I get it back.
Mr.Outdoors
6-8 months isnt that bad at all for a time frame.. alot of places i checked with my widgeons i was looking at a 12-30 month wait. took about 14 months for my widgeons and about 8 months for my woods and gaddy. Muthagoose
One thing to look for in a "quality" mount is injected full feet.. JMO but nothing looks worse that the dried up shriveld greasy looking french fry legs on mounts. It does take a little longer to do the mount. I do it on all my mounts and my students see first hand the huge difference it makes............. Again JMO Preening is another peeve of mine.Birds are smooth not lumpy thats a fact of nature... klee
I remeber seeing some of his duck works, i looked at the feet and they were really glossy and not dry looking. I forgot to ask him if he injects their feet. I dont know how long hes had the ducks but they look nice. Hopefully it will last a long time. How do you care for the mounts? Any kind of mount, it could be deer or duck? My house is pretty dusty so i'm afraid that it will damage the mount.
TonkaBass
Flyway in St. Cloud is hands down the best at what he does.
