A City hunt!!

As the title implies i got drawn for a city hunt, after passing the proficiancy test. This is my first time doing any kind of city hunting, anyone with any prior experience got any hints/tips/stratigies??

congrats on getting selected. I hunt small city parcels but not through city controlled drawings. When hunting within city limits I find that the deer can be very predictable such as food source maybe some neighborhood feeders, shelter behind houses sometimes very close to garages and homes. Don't over look the obvious half acre sliver of woods they too can hhold deer.

From my experiences mornings are the most difficult time to hunt because you usually bump the deer going in and evenings early afternoons are the best times to hunt.

Plan on buying another deer stand if you leave yours in the woods. At least in the Mankato hunt, you can pretty much guarantee that people walk around the woods looking for free stands when the season starts. Pretty sad.

get written permission form nearby property owners allowing you to access their property to retrieve your deer prior to making the shot. While participating in this hunt, a friend of mine shot a deer, and when he went to retrive it from a neighboring property (which the owner had previously given verbal permission)the owner called him in to the dnr, retracted his permission, and they all spent some time in court getting things figured out. There are more than enough people nearby that are not fond of this hunt. There seems to be resistance form some folks every year. Stands get stolen, one year I believe there were fires set near some stand locations. Too much drama for me, lol

sounds like the local CO should be enforcing hunter harassment laws.

Ive never had an issue with the city hunt. the guy that hunted where im hunting this year left his stand in the tree w/ tree pegs all the way up and it was still there tues. so the theives must not look too hard.Good luck tracker.

curious where you can hunt in kato? I'm originally from there and I believe Rasmussen was the first spot? I currently reside in Duluth and hunt the city limits.

Each hunter is given a section of land to hunt i believe. I won't dispose locations, but there are lots of valleys and woods in mankato that are hunted. Many of them are not choice locations, and you may have some people walking by your stand while your hunting.
