2 open seats for spring prairie dog hunt

Recommended Posts

just wanted to offer it up to any hso hunting forum regulars. my cousin and i are going out to nebraska this spring. not sure on exact dates, but probably late march. we'll be meeting my uncle out there, and just staying for the weekend. leaving on friday morning, hunting saturday-monday morn, then leaving monday late morn/early afternoon. i had 2 other buddies lined up but they just backed out so if you've ever wanted to test your long-range abilities, nows your opportunity! all you'll need is about 500rds for your rifle of choice, preferably a backup rifle of the same caliber just in case, and money for gas/lodging/food/drinks. also bring a shotgun with a case or 2 of cheap target rounds. some of the farmers have massive pidgeon problems and getting rid of that problem for them is a ball!

What part of NE? I am from NE and shot prairie dogs in the south central part of the state. How big are the fields you will be hunting? We were shooting fields about 2 x 3 miles and would take 1000 rounds a person each time we went out! We would hit the fields 3 times per day and we typically spent 3 full days out there. Don't forget the most important gun, the 22 lr.

22-243? man that sounds like a zinger!! i know for the bigger guns my uncle likes the 22-250, but i love plinking those things with the .22lr when they're close enough. brings out the 12yr old in me. ill be bringing the 25-06 too, that thing blows em up real nice with an 80gr ballistic tip! plus i wanna see how my deer rifle stacks up to his purpose-build dog guns. smile

I think that is what hot out of the barrel means laugh

I also have a .308 that I would like to check out

I have a 22mag with a bull barrel on it that would be fun to use also. I'm really hopeing that the stars align for this as I would really like to flip those critters out of there hole

bump! gordie, we're looking at the weekend of march 31st if that works for you. we might just be doing 3 days now, leaving thurs after work (5:00ish), shooting sat & sun, & leaving sun afternoon. we still have another open seat if anyone else is interested! should be a pretty cheap trip, since we'll be splitting gas 4 ways (i was planning on driving my 4cyl accord) and hotels 5 ways.
