What to expect before the cold snap

Looks like the surf will be up with the wind making finesse fishing tough, lucky for you a big cold front moving through should get/keep them plenty aggressive. Id start by throwing cranks, swim jigs, swimbaits, things of that nature trying to hunt down the fish, like I said things are shaping up for a good bite.

Hiya -

For me this year a lot depends on what the weedgrowth is like. If it's starting to die back, getting out on the flats and covering water can be pretty fun. Cranks, slow rolling a big spinnerbait, stuff like that. Love this time of year. The one time of year when a cold front can be good news smile

Cheers,

The metro lakes had a pretty good deep weedline bite this summer, but I'm wondering if they stay there or start moving somewhere as the water temp cools.

I usually switch to muskies this time of year, but am interested to hear of some early fall strategies for those fish that have been hangin' on the edge the past two months.

I start looking shallow at remaining green weeds. I love isolated clumps and say a sandy flat. foot or two of water. Toss a critter bait into those clumps. Can produce some vicious strikes. Also love the giant willow leaf 1 oz spinnerbaits reeled just enough to turn the blades.

yep docks are a given too. I just left them out because there always a given for the bass. smile I really do like to upsize my lures and slow them down this time of year to. seems the bigger profile baits get hit hard. I also notice that a lot of strike happen right on the fall so keeping slack out of the the line helps. theres nothing like getting that rod about ripped out of your hands on a 40 degree morning when your the only boat on the lake.
