Nocturnal Bears

I've got two boars coming into one of my baits well after dark. One is definately a shooter and the other about 150#. Baits been in place since baiting opener any suggestions on how to get them to come earlier? Thought since there are two of them there would be a little competition between them to get there earlier. Going to try an oil patch to spread the trail out for more bear to find.

One thing that I have tried and has worked for me was making noise as I entered my station and baiting them! Clanging buckets together when im finished and on the way out! I had a large boar that was hitting well after dark, I went out on a wimb and tried it, after a few days he was hitting regularily about 15 minutes after I baited everytime. A little erie knowing he was that close but it paid off in the end!

i have never tried it but maybe someone has or heard of this. a ol timer that i used to work for baiting said that he used to sprinkle flower around the bait and at night the it would glow around the bait and bears dont like that and gets them to come in during daylight hours. worth a shot if all else fails.

I have heard of that trick with the flour, but it wasn't for that purpose. lol

Might work but I think thats for shooting after hours.

Try a honey burn, worked for me 2 years ago on a nocturnal cinnamon. We've also grabbed scat from one station and moved it over to the night stand, and it seemed to bring the bears in earlier due to competition. Once we had a bear start living right near the bait and he never seemed to leave the area. After we spread dookie in the area he was always around...

Otherwise beg mother nature to cool it down for us. This heat is brutal and the bears don't want to seem to move early aside from the days that are cool and cloudy lately...

Also with the scat thing, start reducing the amount of food you bring in and place the scat. The bear will think that another bear is getting there first and possibly come in ealier.

Ha the flour trick yea it aint about gieting them to come during daylight, black really shines against white wen its dark. Or he was getting a pad print. Try the mourning ritual too. but if its a boar for sure the scat thing is a good try an wat JB sad reduce the feed a little, he'll get [PoorWordUsage] an come in early to get the goodies

I have used it(flour) for the one purpose of outlining the bear in white, and it works awesome. All of my sites are in the woods and have a heavy canopy, this allows you to hunt until the last minute of legal shooting. i shot my big one 2 minutes before the end of the day, and no way would i have seen him with out flour.

totally agree, it is a really good idea. I just worry about something new at the site spooking them off, with most of the goodies a bear could add butter backe cookies.
