Basement Sauna

Hi all, big sauna buff here and I got the wife hooked. Anyone ever put a sauna in their home, what did you like or dislike about it? Did you go electric heat or infrared? Any other tips or suggestions.

My father built one in his house. it is electric. At first it got used all the time... Now it hasn't been used for years and seems to be a storage closet more then anything.

my parents have one in their basement. the house is heated with wood. the sauna was near the wood stove, so they heated the sauna with wood and just tapped the chinmey into the main chimney.

i remember seeing an episode on diy (i think) about building a basement sauna. i think you can search episodes on their HSOforum. might be worth a minute to look.

I know this is an old post but was researching sauna's in the forum as I am in the middle of a build...Bear55 I think you are still around the site...did you ever build the indoor sauna?  I am building an electric heated sauna in my basement currently.  I am about to install the cedar.  I am really excited for this as for the last year+ I have been going to the Y for the sauna daily and love the relaxation and health benefits it provides!!  Anyone else out here have an indoor sauna?
